Default Device in Use Error - 02-22-2006, 11:41 PM

First off i have not been able to get this feature to work yet, at first it was connecting me and then kicking me off at the verify username and password. I am using the devil Cingular. But now i am getting a new message it is telling me that the Device in in Use and cannot connect. I have no idea what it is doing this all i have running is the Desktop Manager.

Please Help Me i would love to figure out how to do this and with Cingular if i have the unlimited data plan with the 8700 am i still going to have to pay extra for the coverage. Also my BB works on EDGE network is that a problem?

I just need any help i can to get this thing to work on a modem. I am going on a Bus Tour and hope to have it working in case we need the internet on a laptop for emergancy emails, I work in Politics. Please email me at [email address] if you can help walk me through how to get it to work and get around this Device in Use stuff. At this point i have deleted the BB modem. So ready to start from scratch

I had no problems when I followed the instructions at the top of this thread.
Mark Rejhon [User] Use BlackBerry As... 01-03-2005, 12:43 AM
Am using Rogers in Canada so your use of Cingular could be an issue. If I recall correctly a few idiosyncracies. You need to remember to run your BB Desktop Manager and of course set up a modem on your PC. Do check that you followed Mark's instrucdtions. With Cingular Blue, Mark's note says blank Username and Pwd. With Cincular Orange, there are other settings. Make sure you got this correct.

Default Final linkup problems - 02-23-2006, 06:31 PM

I have a 7290 Blackberry. I have followed the directions on your forum as to how to connect. I am able to get the Blackberry to connect as a modem, but when I try to go to internet explorer to surf the web, IE doesn't recognize the online connection established through the Blackberry. Any help on getting over this last step would be appreciated.

Hi... i'd like to ask, for this to work, do i need to be on the data plan from bell mobility (canada) or just their black berry plan?...

cuz the bb plan is only $60 whereas the other data plan is $100.

i'm told by the agents that i need to be on the $100 plan...

please advise...

I followed the instructions above in regards to using a Blackberry 8700c as a modem via the Cingular network. Everything worked just fine, however, my 8700c is Edge compliant and is on Cingular's Edge network. When using the internet from the handheld I get DSL lite speeds. 70-90 kbps average, and maybe 120 or so kbps spikes. Regardless, for a handhald it's very impressive. When using the instructions above I'm able to use the 8700c as modem for my laptop, but, it's only dialup speeds. What do I need to do different to get the Edge bandwidth?

Default Thank You - 03-01-2006, 11:05 PM

I registered specifically to thank you for this tutorial. I use a 7290 on T-MO, and following your tutorial, I connected on the first try... at 115kBPS with minimal signal.

Thanks again.

Default 7250 on Bell Mobility - partial success? - 03-02-2006, 02:05 PM

Ok - so I have a 7250 with 4.1 code (don't ask)... doesn't show EVDO yet (service book issues?)... I have had some success with the modem. I do connect and get and IP address:
PPP adapter BlackBerry Modem:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : WAN (PPP/SLIP) Interface
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-53-45-00-00-00
Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 10.131.141.50
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.255
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 10.131.141.50
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 198.235.216.130
209.226.175.236
NetBIOS over Tcpip. . . . . . . . : Disabled

But I can't ping anything... I'm guess this is probably a setting on the BES server - but since I work for one of those large corporate type companies finding that person who manages the BES servers is proving to be difficult. Can anyone confirm that this might be the problem - or am I missing something.

btw - I dial with the *777, and user name is @1x.bellmobility.com pw is voicemail.

thanks!

Default Cingular Data Connect - 03-03-2006, 01:10 PM

I just got off the phone with Cingular, they said I must switch from the $44.95 Unlimited Blackberry Connect plan to a $79.95 plan. Has anyone found a way around this?

What Cingular once called Data Connect now seems to be called Laptop Connect. An unlimited plan on it is $79.99 per month. When I have read "Data Connect" on this thread I thought it referred to Laptop Connect.

I believe you do have to pay a for the $44.99 ($49.99 if you don't have a voice plan) service in order to do a TCP/IP (modem or Verichat) connection.

Smile TMobile 7100t modem - 03-04-2006, 02:13 AM

Hi,

I've used the settings recommended on this thread using the extra init settings and then *99# and the modem was recognized just fine when I plugged into my USB port.

However, now my computer doesn't even recognize a modem exists when I plug in the 7100t. I have not changed any settings on my computer at all. Still does not recognize after I open the BB Desktop Manager program.

Any suggestions of what I need to do?

Thanks!

The correct init string for the Blackberry 8700 when using T-Mobile (tmobile) as a modem on your laptop is

+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

refrence:
http://home.comcast.net/~tamsterra/
http://home.comcast.net/~tamsterra/B...Model_Tips.pdf

I also posted this in the 8700 general discussion.

Keywords:

8700c, Tmobile, T-Mobile, Modem, 626 Error,

03-05-2006 12:05:21.156 - Send: AT+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com","",0,0<cr>
03-05-2006 12:05:41.156 - Timed out waiting for response from modem

Default 7105t T-Mobile (tmobile) Success - 03-07-2006, 11:55 AM

I was able to get my 7105t to work using tmobile. At first I was receiving error 734 but that was because i was missing the + in the init string. So, be sure to have the following in your init string (just as specified by this FAQ, i just missed it when i did copy/paste)

Init String: +cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com","",0,0
Phone Number: *99#

I also had problems originally with 'standard modem' not being in my list of modems. I removed the desktop software and reinstalled and that created the modem.

I am running the HK CSL 4.1 on the bb and for desktop manager.

Default Hong Kong CSL Modem and Blackberry Help - 03-07-2006, 08:41 PM

Has anyone gotten the modem to work on the CSL network? I know the APN settings are:

APN: hkcsl
Gateway: 192.168.59.51
Port: 9201

but I don't know how to put the port or APN into the initialization string (if required). I also don't know the username and password. Right now it seems to connect but fail at login. I get an error: "Checking network protocol connections....TCP/IP CP reported error 736: The remote computer terminated the control protocol" - during "registring your computer on the network. Any suggestions!?

Thanks, all! This will certainly improve the quality of my life when I'm on the road this weekend.

No luck as I am using IP and not DNS for the gateway. Can someone explain what the syntax is. Should I need to add the port I have for the APN? I tried other init strings and I just get an immediate error (don't even connect). THANKS!

Has anyone gotten VPN to work over AT&T/Cingular?
The instructions at the beginning worked awesome. I can surf with no issue.
My VPN (PPTP) will not connect though.
Any thoughts?

You need to probably setup the APN. I don't know the settings but this lets you have IP access to the internet for things like VPN.

With 'WAP.CINGULAR' in the init string, 'ISPDA@CINGULARGPRS.COM' as the userid and maximum modem speed set to '921600' in the connection properties I'm getting 156Kbps per the cnet.com bandwidth meter. dslreports.com reports slightly less but still more than double dialup speeds.

Watching NetPerSec on the interface I've seen bursts to 235Kbps.

8700c Cingular Orange/EDGE with a -64db signal strength reported by alt+nmll

PS: No blocked ports that I can find. SSH, FTP, Telnet, VPNs all seem to work fine.
