You have now become my Blackberry Sensei!!! I have this running awesome with Robbers Wireless (ya on the 25mb unlimited plan). Any thought on getting my VPN connections working with my office in Brussels? I am using the MS VPN connection.

Currently, Rogers, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Vodafone UK are reported to work. Sometimes and Cingular works, but is much harder to setup. No confirmations for other carriers yet.
Important: If you are using a BES 4.0 server, your BES 4.0 server, you should not use the "Disable IPmodem" setting. BES hosting providers such as eOutlook/Mailstreet/BES4U/MyBlueberry must avoid setting the "Disable IPmodem" setting.

- Connect Your BlackBerry
Make sure your BlackBerry is connected by USB cable, and your BlackBerry Handheld Manager is running (just launch BlackBerry Desktop to run it.) This is necessary for using the BlackBerry as an external modem. You cannot use BlackBerry as a modem unless you have BlackBerry Handheld Manager running in the background!

- Modem Driver Install
If you installed a recent version of BlackBerry Desktop that came with a 7100t, 7290, 7250, or 7520, it should include modem drivers and already be automatically installed. In the event you need to manually install them, the modem drivers should be located in this directory:
C:\program files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Modem Drivers
However, if you are having problems with these drivers, uninstall, delete all leftover RIM files, and then reinstall the latest version of BlackBerry Desktop.

- Verify The Modem Driver Is Functioning
Go to Control Panel -> Phone & Modem Options. In the Modems tab, you should see a new Standard Modem on a new port (such as COM6 or COM11). Click Properties -> Diagnostics -> Query Modem. You should see the following:Note: This may look different on Nextel 7520, or Sprint/Verizon/Bell Mobility 7250. This is normal. Just make sure there is a response at all, rather than no response.

- IMPORTANT SPECIAL CONFIGURATION STEP
Click Properties -> Advanced and add only ONE of the following Extra initialization commands with the appropriate carrier-specific APN Setting:

Rogers Users (Success!)
+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet.com"
Cingular Blue/AT&T Users (Success!)

- Add A New Internet Connection
Close the Phone and Modem Options and the Control Panel. Create a new connection with Start -> Connect To -> Show all connections -> Create a new connection..
- Disable IP Header Compression
Make sure TCP/IP Properties (Advanced) "Use IP Header Compression" checkbox is NOT checked. To verify this, do these steps:Also make sure you clear all these checkboxes, if you see any of these checked:
Turn off "Enable Hardware Flow Control"
Turn off "Enable Modem Error Control"
Turn off "Enable Modem Compression"

- BES Configuration
Skip this step if you are not on BES. You only need to follow this step if your company gave the BlackBerry to you. If you are at a company and you are on a BES 4.0, your Administrator must enable the "BlackBerry IPModem" setting on the BES. This is a new setting in the Version 4.0 of BES.

- Surf On The Laptop!
Connect to the Internet on the laptop by clicking the "BlackBerry Modem" icon via Start Menu->Network Connections. No username or password is needed.

What are the average speeds Nextel and Cingular customers are pulling down?
Respectively.
I ask because I am military; there is no internet in these barracks but perfect cell service. WiFi is accessible but many miles away (+15 mi ~). So at this point; what I may do is add the BB $29 plan to my Cingular line; ditch the MPX and put my SIM in a new 8700c; and then use the Nextel BB7520 as my modem to the 'net, exclusively.
Sounds like a plan - but I need speeds ;) Thanks in advance.

I have managed to get my pc to work using my blackberry as a modem in the uk, thanks to instructions from this forum. My account is with t mobile uk. If I need to connect in Spain, do I use the same settings or do I need adjust them?

My 7250 is tethered to my laptop. It has been working fine. But now it won't download when tethered. I can connect and upload but nothing comes back. I'm on unlimited data plan with ALLTEL. BlackBerry v4.1.0.291 Laptop v4.1.1.9

Upgraded my 7250 to Alltel's latest software 4.1.0.291 and setup the connection on the computer and that's it. Didn't have to do anything on the handheld. It's actually pretty easy. On the PC:
Make sure BlackBerry is plugged in and Desktop Manager is running
Create new manual internet connection using dial up modem
Select the standard modem (or whatever it is COM port your BB is plugged in to)
ISP name can be whatever you want
Phone number is #777
No username or password
Finish
SonicWall VPN worked

8700c and winxp - dreaded 736 error -

I have an 8700c and tried both the wap.cingular and the isp.cingular strings with and without the AT at the front. I have had success with my setup previously but today it doesn't work. It seems hit or miss. I keep getting the 736 error and can't figure it out.

I tried all the steps in this article and got almost all the way through to getting a connection - except at the very end, I get a dialog that says: Error connecting... Checking network protocol connections... TCP/IP CP reported error 736: the remote computer terminated the control protocol.
I have been on the phone with Cingular and they have been unable to figure it out!

Folks,
There have been a few folks, like myself, who had issues connecting and reported getting a client IP of 10.x.x.x and a server IP of 10.x.x.x. I just got off the phone with someone from RIM and this type of addressing is correct. Up until now, I have always been able to connect, but couldn't go anywhere. The chap at RIM had me disable (not simply disconnect as I had been doing) my office LAN line. Once I did this, I was able to surf using my blackberry. So, if you are able to connect but not able to surf, try disabling any LAN connections you might have. Once I did this, I was able to surf and connect to my office via VPN.
BTW: I'm sing a BB 7100g from Rogers behind a BES

Having the options greyed out could be a few things. It could be a windows Policy on you PC that is blocking the option. It could be as simple as a typo in the previous options or a conflict with the port. If you can, try using something other than COM3. |

I just tried this out for my 8700g on T-Mobile and it worked like a charm!
Please note that I skipped the last step where it said to disable all the compression parameters and it still worked. Mark quessed that it might be due to an updated OS and I think he's probably right. So, if you can get it to work without disabling compression, I think you'll get better performance with it turned on.

Thank you a million times over for this! I successfully connected (actually I am right now posting this) with T-Mobile (US) through my 8700g.
The only problem I am having is accessing google sites. Google.com, gmail, etc. all will not load. They stick on "web site found, waiting for..." blah blah blah but they never load.
I've tried IE, FireFox, and Flock thinking it was maybe the browser I was using. I looked through a few pages but didn't find anything on this.
Has anyone come up against this and if so did you find a solution?
