if i remember correctly, the drivers are not for the modem but for that software the emulates the com port. the modem gets installed with standard microsoft drivers.

From the very first post in this thread...

Supported BlackBerry Models
You must have a BlackBerry model 7100 or a model 7290, or a Nextel 7520. At this time, no successes are yet possible on older BlackBerry models, and may not ever be. This may change with a release of BlackBerryOS 4.0, but there are no guarantees.

Curious if anyone "tackled" the PPP 734 connect messages as of yet?

Even with these packages installed on my plan:

WIX EXTENDED INTERNET
DATA CONNECT ISP
WRLSS INTRNT XPRS PAY PER USE

It was explained to me by two different BB techs at Cingular that the WIX data connnect was replaced by "DATA CONNECT ISP" and this is now the correct package.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

- APN for ISP.CINGULAR is set in modem config extra options

- Username/password all set as the threads discuss for cingular APN access.

Seems I followed all the advice I found after hours of searching, still no luck. This post is out of despiration at this point

Thanks!

Updated to add information about setting up a BlackBerry Model 7250. Please post if you can get your model 7250 working on Verizon.

You must dial phone number "#777" to connect the laptop to the Internet on a CDMA cellphone modem (all 4 digits, and using a pound sign followed by three 7's).

When connecting, you may need to enter a username and password, where ########## is your 10-digit phone number:

Verizon
Username: ##########
Password: ##########@vzw3g.com

BlackBerryModem on CDMA Networks

I googled the Net and found the necessary information for Bell Mobility and Sprint users. This is an extrapolation (prediction) of what is necessary to make the 7250 work as a modem. No guarantees. Replace 8005551212 with the 10-digit phone number of your BlackBerry.

Verizon
Username: 8005551212@vzw3g.com
Password: vzw

Verizon (alternate)
Username: 8005551212@vzw3g.com
Password: 8005551212

Bell Mobility
Username: 8005551212@1x.bell.ca
Password: Your Voicemail PIN

Sprint
Username: Your Sprint PCS Username
Password: Your Sprint PCS Password

Sprint (alternate)
Username: (leave blank)
Password: (leave blank)

Telus CDMA
Username: 8005551212@1x.telusmobility.com
Password: ESN (11 digit code from your BlackBerry)

Also, there is an alternate phone number "#19788" if you are unable to dial using #777.

Thanks,

Preliminary tests by someone, indicates the 7250 does indeed have a modem built in.

I thought this was good because at least we have life. I then configured everything else as indicated in your instruction sheet. WHen I tried to connect, I received an error 678 - remote computer not responding. WHile it was trying to dial, I did not see any data arrows going back and forth on the BB screen.

Any ideas?
However, the modem doesn't appear to be fully enabled by Verizon yet -- An Error 678 occurs when trying to connect to Verizon's network.

Keep testing...

Remember, if you are on a BES 4.0 server, please make sure the "IPmodem" setting on your BES is enabled.

If you are on a BES/MDS hosting provider (Mailstreet, MyBlueberry, BES4U, eOutlook), please contact them to make sure the IPmodem setting is turned on in their BES server. Otherwise, you'll probably get an Error 678.

ChristopherRI was using BES 3.6 without the "IP modem" setting.

Is there another volunteer here, who is using BES 4, willing to test out BlackBerryModem on a 7250?

I remember seeing a success report from a Roger's customer in the past, but I am unable to get the IP Modem to work. I have 7290/HH 4.0/BES 4.0 on Roger's. Is it possible that they have shut this down?

I get the "Error 734: PPP link control protocol was terminated" message.
I have followed the instructions above, and ensured multilink and security are off.

Try calling Rogers and asking for the "internet.com Access Point Name" (APN) to be added to your account on top of the existing blackberry.net Access Point Name.

I need help from someone that has made this work on a 7520. It is hit and miss as to decting the modem, any advice on getting that to be stable? Also, when I can detect the modem it times out and I get an error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Note: I am on Nextel with the unlimited BB plan. Is there something else I need to add to my plan?

Thanks in adv.
Kelly.

I should warn that nobody has ever reported 7520 working successfully as a modem for laptop -- yet. The feature is there, but nobody has gotten it to successfully work yet on the 7520.

Called Roger's and had the APN added. (Hard-reset the BlackBerry afterwards). Still no luck--same error message.

Try entering a username/password when you connect:

APN: internet.com
Username: wapuser1
Password: wap

If this still fails, try following the instructions for the "Error 718" in my second post of this thread, and seeing if that resolves the problem.

Based on information from treatz:

Is anyone (still) trying to create a BBModem application for the 7750? To me, it just seems silly that this "can't be done".

Default Modem still works on 4.0? - 02-06-2005, 10:00 PM

I read something about the modem not working in 4.0. Has anyone else had this problem? I got it to work a couple months ago with 3.8, but now I cannot even do a "Query Modem" - it says the modem does not respond. I tried reinstalling 3.8 on the desktop, but not on the phone (yet).

I have a 7100t on T-Mobile in the SF Bay Area.

Thanks.

I too can connect and pass AT commands sometimes but I get Error 692 almost right away. When I ATDT some kind of data session starts, but apparently it's not correct for PPP to start negiotiating. Any thoughts?

I am trying to setup my 7250 as a modem. when I try to Verify The Modem Driver Is Functioning I know it is using com11 but I get an error message that that port is in use? sorry I am not that computer literate but would like to try to get it to work. as of the TMO ports reopening, I am able to once again use my 7100t as a modem... the original instructions suffice (original TMO modem initialization string, automatically obtain DNS servers, no user or pass, dial *99#)

bugmenot,
Are you using wap.voicestream.com or internet2.voicestream.com in the initialization string?

intradev,
I wonder if this requires Nextel's use of their own dial-up software. You might want to check into that. Maybe the software needs to be modified so that the 7520 works.

hugman85,
Nobody around here has successfully yet used a 7250 as a modem for laptop. Maybe Verizon doesn't quite want to let this get enabled just yet. Time will tell...

I am Domino BES Admin and I do not see any option to enable IPmodem. The only option I see is to disable IPmodem in an IT Policy. To my knowledge the only way to get IPmodem is to have your provider add this option to your account.

Does anyone know where the option is on the BES?

I may have confused the 'Enable IPmodem' with 'Disable IPmodem'.

Perhaps I should revise my first post to say to 'Make sure that your 'Disable IPmodem' checkbox is cleared.'

Phone: 7100t
BES4.0: Yes

The good news: Successfully tested. Did a few variations; connected using my t-mobile credentials in dialup settings, connected with no credentials in dial up settings, connected with no credentials in dialup settings/no APN information in options->tcp->apn/username/pw (the last part I'm not sure was necessary; in the charm thread about t-mob unblocking ports original poster mentioned you needed to set apn in options->APN, but I don't list that under options so figured TCP is where it should be set).

The bad news: what an awful connection. 11kbs, with a 4 -6 *second* average latency (4000-6000ms)! Are these numbers typical, or is my connection sucking extra bad for some reason? When I run a tracert, nearly every hop along the way is well over 2000ms. If this is the norm, I'm guessing people are excited about this for the ability to run remote admin/ssh type apps?

When GPRS is less congested, the performance should be more like a 56Kbps connection, with a 500ms ping. It shouldn't be that bad, unless you're in congested airwaves!

Greetings,

Rogers, 7290, desktop 4.0, OS 3.8, No BES.

Success! I'm on the the unlimited data trial for a couple months yet so I'll try this out a little. I guess I have to go get a car charger for my laptop now though! There have been rumours that the data prices should be dropping or the caps increasing. I'll keep my fingers crossed. It would be great to have a truely unlimited package and modem come cottage season. Hehehe
