Really all I need is "number" and the ISP info and password. For example with cingular Phone number: *99# User Name: [email address]

Password: CINGULAR1

but I'm not sure what Alltel's info is.

How is this confusing? All BlackBerry's have an embedded wireless modem.

Modem as in a MOdulator DEModulator, which can converts digital to analog and back. Pretty much everything that transmits digital data over an analog medium either wired or wireless (DSL, Cable, CDMA, GSM, GPRS, 1X, WiFi, etc), could be called a modem.

It's not a modem in the perspective of PC-to-Internet communications, but a modem in the scientific perspective.

Besides, modem over GPRS is always emulated anyway because it is all kept in digital format -- so not a real modem anyway -- but a virtual PC modem (for PC-to-Internet use) over a different kind of a modem (the RIM modem)

Default Remote desktop timeout

Thanks for the intitial post Mark. I just managed to get my BB7290 to work with my tablet and didn't even have to go past page 1 of the thread. The modem speed is 115.2kbps, allowing me to access all the websites I've tested so far.
However I am trying to access a remote desktop for work (the whole reason I wanted a BB modem connection in the first place), but everytime I try the remote connection times out. Does anyone have any ideas here? Is it possible to increase the connection speed slightly by changing the settings at all? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
T

After upgrading to 4.0.2.49, I am unable to use the Blackberry Modem (T-Mobile, 7100t). I do not even see the Blackberry Modem in the Phones & Modems settings in the Control Panel. What gives? Thanks.

Cool Need 7290 modem driver

This guide is great, however, I have v 4.0 of the desktop software for my 7290 and it does not install any modem driver directory. Could someone point me in the right direction to get the needed driver?

Thanks!

Boat3011, I also had problems finding the modem driver. So instead I just went into Phone & Modem connections and clicked add (make sure BB is connected first). I added a 56kbps standard modem (it put it in Com5). Then when I queried modem (under diagnostics), it recognized the BB. I know Mark's original post said the modem should pop up automatically in Com 6, 11, etc, but you may want to give this a whirl. I am posting this reply on my tablet via my BB right now.
Now if I could only get the remote desktop to connect!

Default Blackberry 7100t

Anyone think they can shoot an idea of what im doing wrong?

T-Mobile Blackberry 7100 v4.0.2.49
Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.0.1.12
Dell Inspiron 2200 w/ Windows XP Home Edition

the laptop finds the modem, not a problem. i setup the modem strings, the connection connects, i get an ip (gateway always appears to be the same as the ip which could be the issue) and I cant connect to anything. no aim, no web, traceroute isnt happening, pinging is a joke (cant even ping my own ip). what am i doing wrong?

Following the directions above, with the exception of the following, I was able to connect using my blackberry 7290 from Cingular in the Northeast by using:

+CGDCPNT=1,"IP","WAP.CINGULAR"

I also needed to uncheck:

Enable hardware flow control
Enable modem error control
Enable model compression

under Hardware feature in Modem Configuration on Windows XP.

Please help - I've read this thread through and am still not able to get my modem connection working. I have 7290 with TMO. I'm able to query modem fine. I get error 718 - connection times out. I've tried using both my Tmobile.com username and password as well as empty for both. TMO help said no username and password needed. I've added the DNS for TMO as suggested in previous thread: 216.155.175.105. I've tried both initialization strings:
+cgdcont=1,"IP","blackberry.net","",0,0
and
+cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com","",0,0.

I've tried it with Handheld Manager and Desktop Manager are both running and each running alone without success.

Any suggestions? Do I need "AT" in front of the +cgdcont?
Do I need to set TCP APN settings on my blackberry options? If so, what should these be set for?

ROGERS USERS: Have any of you gone over 25 megs on your unlimited plan? what happened? I now have this working (won't use it often, but when i do it's really REALLY useful!) but i ended up using 2 megs in 20 minutes.

That's huge..

ALL USERS: What did you do to your box to reduce background bandwidth usage? the first thing i did on Windows XP was disable automatic updates, turn off/uninstall p2p apps, disable java update.. but my box was still sending a few k/minute back and forth. If i left this connection open it' all going to add up very fast.

Hopefully with the EDGE blackberries coming and with more Rogers realization that modem use is here to stay, they will provide either an option for us or increase the 'cap'..

Has anyone been able to help with this? I have the exact same problem with the IP addresses
