Hello everyone,

I have the 8700G on TMO and I keep getting and error 692 message trying to setup and connect with the modem. Somehow the rim modem drivers are not available for the standard modem.

I do have a modem folder in the rim common files. TMO service was unable to resolve the problem commenting on initializing strings are being developed for the 8700 at this time.

Please help

Success!! I was getting a WWAN WLAN error when trying to run Voyageur with a 7130e on Bell Mobility and a Sony Vaio VGN TX 651P. I needed to disable the wi-fi, since there was a conflict. Now, I'm MO-bile!

Is it possible to use bluetooth instead of the USB to run the modem with 7130e?

Default Issues with 8700g on TMO

I previously had a 7100T that was working as a dial-up modem under TMO, but now I am trying to set up my 8700g and having issues.

First off, when I query the modem, I get the following:

ATQ0V1E0 Success
AT+GMM Blackberry IP Modem
AT+FCLASS=? COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT#CLS=? COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT+GCI? COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
AT+GCI=? COMMAND NOT SUPPORTED
ATI1 Research in Motion / BlackBerry IP Modem
through...
ATI7 Research in Motion / BlackBerry IP Modem

It certainly seems to me that the "Command not supported" looks like the issue here since I don't see any other reports of that not showing up.

If I try to go ahead and dial-up (with the entry removed from Advanced/Extra Initialization Commands) I get the following after "Registering your computer on the network...": TCP/IP CP reported error 736: the remote computer terminated the control protocol.

I did a complete uninstall and reinstall of the BB Desktop Manager, as the upgrade from the one I was using with the 7100 did not install the modem drivers.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Jake Williams

Default Sprint 7250

Two questions:
1. Where is the IPModem setting on the BES server? I have looked in all BB documentation and settings on the BES server and cannot find...

2. Has anyone had any luck so far with a Sprint 7250?

Standard modem is configured, querying modem OK, Dial Up connection is set up using #777. I see traffic on the modem and see "Modem Mode" on my BB when dialing, but receive a 678 error (no answer).

Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

Default 8700g T-Mobile

I upgraded the client same as you, and got rid of the advance commands as required in the original document at the start of this thread.

Works great for me (I am on it as I write this).

I got my TMO 8700g working @115200 here in the office. I'll try it at home on the edge network to see if I can go faster.

Default Tmobile-8700G works with GPRS not EDGE

I have successfully tethered my 8700G w/ my laptop following the excellent directions in this thread. However, it only works when my blackberry is on GPRS.

When I'm connected via EDGE - I'm getting an error "736" after it's trying to register my computer on the network.

Any suggestions?

Success with Cingular Orange and BB 7100g on Win/XP Pro
I hope this helps someone.
First Details:
Location - Birmingham Alabama
Provider - Cingular Wireless (Orange)
Phone - 7100g
Phone OS - 4.0
Desktop - 4.1
Laptop OS - Win XP Pro (Current with all updates)

Note: My solution included upgrading my 44.95 Unlimited BB Plan to their new
BB Unlimited w/DataConnect Plan which added $30 a month. If you are looking for the back door, I don't have any more info than what is already posted, but although the rep I spoke with did not either confirm or deny that we might get it to work without this plan, my take was that Cingular is or will be closing the door unless you purchase a plan including what they call BB w/DataConnect.
Pros - Works like a charm and they fully support it
Cons - $30.00 a month more, but if you need this frequently this may not be that bad considering the "Pros"
I tried the numbers posted here for BB support and they had been changed to point back into the normal Customer Support queues. Once they get published they apparently get inundated with unnecessary calls so I'll refrain from posting it here, just ask for BB Support.
I spoke with Peter Adams and he was most knowledgable, courteous, and helpful.

Step 1: Call Cingular and take no prisioners until you are connected with BlackBerry Support.
Step 2: Ask them to upgrade your BB plan to one that includes DataConnect. Mine was the unlimited, but they may have other less expensive plans.
Step 3: Make sure you have a properly installed copy of BB Desktop 4.1 or if you prefer a lighter client that doesn't have all of the backup features etc, you can go to (I can't post URLS yet so something like www dot cingular dot com/midtolarge/communicationmgr and download the Cingular Communications Manager client that will setup the connection for you. (I already had desktop installed)
Step 4:Make sure your modem is working using the info posted here. You do not need any additional initialization strings. (You do not need to change any options on the phone either)
Step 5: Create the new connection using the modem and use these settings
Username [email address]
Password CINGULAR1
Phone # *99#
I have done this with all software compression,IP Header compression, and LCP Extensions set off or on and it works either way. I am currently using all three on.
I have tried both with manually configured DNS and DHCP assigned and both work.
Step 6: Connect and enjoy reasonably fast access. Pages with tons of graphics will load slowly, but it works!!! I just posted this through my 7100g.

This may cost more, but it works, it's supported, and I'm not spending days fighting with settings to get connected. It also appears that the pay per use Internet Connect may keep getting removed from your accounts as the billing system recognizes that this is "unnecessary" with the BB Plan

Phred

Updated: I tried the connection manager and found that I still had to have the BB Desktop open to make it work. After another call to Cingular it appears that their connection manager does not specifically support the 7100g and using the BB Desktop with MS Network Connection is the best method. The connection manager is aimed at the 8xxx series that acts as a real USB device and supports slightly faster speeds. If you have one of these then try it. It will show your signal strength and GSM info on the screen and supposedly works with the newer phone to provide some more advantageous compression that the 7100 doesn't support.

Default BB As a Modem with CompuServe v 7.0 Software?

I am able to connect to the 'net using my 7100t as a modem, with GREATFUL thanks to this forum thread, especially to Mark Rejhon for starting it all! What a pleasure to be able to do this when I'm in hotels that charge $20 per day for internet access!

I can connect through my BB using FireFox and IE browsers, but would like to know if it's possible to connect using my CompuServe v7.0 software. I believe AOL v7.0 is the same architecture as CompuServe 7.0 software, so any info would likely apply to AOL users as well. I've experimented with several different configurations in my CompuServe acess setup area, but without success. Currently, based on what I've tried to configure so far, I get the following message in the connection log: "Attempt 1) [*99#] The access company failed to respond." It then goes through a good many attempts, and on the connection screen, you do see a string of processes including "Initializing Modem/Connecting/Connected at 115K." Note: I am NOT trying to connect to CompuServe using a dial-up telephone number.

It would be convenient to be able to do this, as I have many bookmarks and other items residing on my CS v7.0 software. I'm sure this would apply to many other users as well.

Kudos to all those who've posted here and lend their assistance!

Default How to Hook up a 8700 to your laptop and use as a wireless modem using Cingular?

I followed the set up proceedure for the 8700 with Cingular, went to connect and got a message that says:

"TCP/IP CP reported error 736: The remote computer terminated the
control protocol."

Does anyone know why this happened and what I can do to fix it?

Thanks!

Sorry, but I guess Verizon has answered by question: I'd have to pay $15 more a month.

wap.cingular in the init string allowed me and my 8700c to connect. before I changed the isp.cingular to wap.cingular in the init string, I was not able to connect and was getting the 736 error.
no user/pass needed.
no settings in handset TCP. just leave it blank.
921600 in the modem config does allow higher thruput per speakeasy speedtests. I got up to 199kbs (24.9Kbps)
also, I have the basic $44.99 listed as "XM with BB and V UN" on my bill. I never called cingular to add any line items to my bill...

pretty cool.

HTH,

Eric

I tried setting up my 8700g as some of you had done successfully and kept getting the error 736 problem, then tried adding back in the extra initialization command:

+cgdcont=1"IP","wap.voicestream.com"

--which is contrary to most of what I've read; also added back in the T-Mobile user ID and PW, and presto, I'm on. (Using the BB as modem right now, actually, since I'm in a hotel that wants me to pay $9.95/day for wireless.) Not blazingly fast, of course, at 115.2 Kbps, but workable.

This is my first BB (and my first post) and I've been really happy so far with the 8700g; worked fine right out of the box and have had no problems since (well, in the week I've had it). This forum has been a big help and definitely adds to the experience.
