7100 Rogers -
08-03-2005, 12:28 AM
Hi,
Im trying to setup my 7100R as a modem on my lab top.
Im experiencing the following problem:
1. Under the modem tab it does not have a new standard modem. i.e. It cant seem to see a COM6 or COM11 as others have mentioned.
2. Even when I setup a new modem, the only port available is COM1, which is already being used by another device. Nor can I query this same setup (com1).
How can I get past this. For some reason it doesnt seem to be recognizing any other COMS but COM1.
Thanks!!

BB 7520 used as a modem -
08-03-2005, 04:37 PM
Well I have read almost every post on this subject and can't figure were I went wrong. I can not get my 7520 to be recognized as a modem. I am on 4.0.0.30 of the Desktop manager
4.0.0.36 of the Handheld manager
1.1.02 of the RIM USB serial driver
I can see in device manager, under ports, Com 5 assigned to the RIM virtual serial port. I tried setting up a standard 19200 baud modem and assigned it to com 5, but no luck. When I tried to install the modem driver from prog files/common/RIM/modem drivers it sees rimserial.inf but says the specified location does not have info about my device.
Any hints on how to get it to recognize the BB as a modem? Using Windows 2000.
Thanks

I set my 7100t up for TMO a few months back. I used it the other day but connection is slow...like way slower than dialup ever was. Is there some setting that I am missing or something I dont know about? I cant imagine people here would try to use it if it was as slow as it is for me.

FYI - I have an unlocked Cingular 7290 that I've been using with T-Mobile. It has had the Vodafone 4.0 handheld software but I couldn't get the 7290 working (modem query never worked). I loaded the latest handheld software from T-Mobile and was able to query the modem right off the bat without any other changes. I doubt very many others will be in the same boat...

Figured it out! -
08-05-2005, 05:19 PM
I simply uninstalled the desktop manager software and downloaded the program from the RIM website. Once installed I was able to see the modem on COM3.
If your having troubles seeing the modem just re-install desktop manager.

Call me crazy, but...I guess no one has ever figured out the 7520 as a modem? I hope I don't have to change carriers just to make this work. Someone get back to me

KPN The Netherlands:
+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet."
dial *99#
no username and no password
another option:
+cgdcont=1,"IP","internet."
dial *99#
username "KPN" password "gprs" (any other name will do as well...)
DNS: 62.133.126.28 and 62.133.126.28
in this option you have to enter in the blackbarry option "TCP":
APN: Internet
Username: KPN
password: gprs
most other European settings can be found here:
http://www.access-sys-eu.com/gprs.html
good luck!
I really think that using the BB as a modem is a very good option for working abroad where no UMTS roaming is available! (unless you want to download lots of MB's)

Yes, I have been successful in using my 7290 as a modem for my laptop. I have Cingular. It took a while to read all the posts about getting it setup. But tried several suggestions and finally got the right settings. Have not traveled lately so I have not used it extensively but I've been successful every time I have used it.

To date, has anyone gotten their Nextel 7520 to function as a modem, and does it incur additional charges on top of the unlimited data plan.

AT&T BB Modem setup -

The only way I could get my 7100g AT&T BB to work was to add "AT" in front of the initiazation command.

No. The 7230 can not be used as a modem.
The very first page of this thread has an updated list of which BBs do and do not work as modems.

7290 with Cingular -
08-26-2005, 09:03 AM
When I called Cingular I have not had any success in getting them to understand my request. Does anyone have any suggestions or a certain number that worked for you when you called. The problem I am having is the 734 PPP error. Which probably means the username and password are not correct for my account. If I change the APN to wap.cingular, the connection gives me a 691 username and password not correct for domain. If anyone has any ideas as to what I can to to get this to work it would be great.

I'm on TMO and have no problem using +cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com","",0,0
or +cgdcont=1,"IP","blackberry.net","",0,0 with or without compression enabled (software or hardware), no username and password. I always get a 10.x.x.x range for my IP.

Follow up to the last post, I get a 678 error message. From what I can tell, this means that my laptop is not communicating with my BB. Any Ideas?

Most likely you want to connect too quickly.
Connet your BB to your laptop, open de software.
Wait until the communication between de BB and your laptop has finished, as well as on your laptop as on the BB screen.
Make the connection.
If you still have this problem, remove the SIM card, wait 15 seconds and replace it.
Then, be a little less in a hurry to make the connection. It's a slow one anyway

No luck, first of all there is not a SIM card on a Alltel phone. (CDMA) Second I did wait and was running the software still no luck. I went to My local Alltel store and asked them to help me and they were suprised about the information I had. They asked me to come back and tell them how to do one I have it igured out.
