Default BB as Modem-Error 736 solved - 02-27-2006, 11:15 AM

After a little digging, I finally got my "Error 736 connection terminated by the remote server" problem solved, while trying to set up my BB as a modem.

I had to call my provider (Rogers) and ask that my SIM account be granted access to the "internet.com" APN (this will vary with each provider). Once they did that (and did a 'push' at their end) everything worked fine.

I'm a bit confused as to what services I need to make this work with a 8700G Blackberry on T-Mobile. I current have their 1000 minute unlimited mail/data plan ($59/month) I can connect, but get the error 738. When I called customer service to get the APN turned on, they indicated I need to pay another montly fee of $29 to use the Blackberry as a laptop modem. Is this correct? What are others experiences? What plan do I need to make the 8700G an attached laptop modem and get the APN turned on?

The plan you have now should work for you. I have the same plan without problems. Make sure you go under the options and list "wap.voicestream.com" as your APN.

Thanks - I made the change you suggested and it now works fine with a Macbook running Bootcamp and Windows XP Home. I have not figured out how to get this working under Parallels Desktop yet, but I understand no one has done that yet either. Thanks for your assistance!

Default BB 8700C as a modem - 11-16-2006, 08:11 AM

I tried to get Cingular to grant my SIM account access to "Internet.com" APN as stated above and they claim that there is not one. They want to charge me $74.99 in addition to my unlimited data plan to add the tethering option. How do I change the APN under options to Voicestream.com as you recommend? I do not see the option. Thanks in advance.
