Red face new user with an old blackberry 5810

Hi All hopefully some one can help me i have just bought an old 5810 it works great for phone and email but i can't get it to be recognized on my computer i have to use my desktop because it has a serial and my laptop does not.
it seems to only want to connect to com 4 but when i look in my device manager it is on com 5 is there an updated driver i can get for it i searched rim and couldnot find anything, also is there a USB cable i can get for this older model instead of the serial, thanks for your time and attension.

There used to be a list of supported USB/Serial converts for these type of handhelds. Check the BlackBerry Technical Knowledge Center.
