Exclamation Setting up the PIN - 06-15-2006, 06:21 PM

I heard that the Blackberries have a "PIN" that you can use to instant message one another for free. Is this true? My wife and I went out and bought ourselves two 8700G's. We love them, but would like that free instant messaging with one another. Could someone please help me out?

Thanks for the help in advance! I am addicted to these things!!!!

It is true. The program on the blackberry is called Blackberry Messenger. You must have a data plan on both of the blackberry's to use it, though. To add each other to the contact lists, look up the PIN's in the status menu. Go to options and towards the bottom of the list you should see 'Status.' In there you'll find the PIN's to add into Blackberry Messeger.

No setup needed.
You can just go into your address book and highlight your wife's name with the track wheel and click it, scroll down to PIN wife or whatever and click that and your there.
BB messenger is more of an AIM just between Berry's you can collect pins and use it like as your inatant messenger. Pin messages work only between other berrys tho.
However you can get another prog like Ramble im and use that as well. That will allow use of other IM clients such as AIM or google chat I believe.

Any other Q's ask away!
Welcome and good luck with your new Berrys!!!!!!!!

You have to already have another BlackBerry users PIN in your address book. Then you can go into messages, click the scroll wheel, select Compose PIN, then enter the name of the person, type your message and hit send.

You can also add the person to your BlackBerry Messenger contact list and send messages that way.

PIN is a unique indetifier for Blackberry users. You can find yours by going to Options and Status, or by typing MYPIN in any text application like an e-mail on your BB. You may choose to use it to communicate between blackberry users. PIN messages are more instantaneous and travel across the BB network. You don't have to ever use your PIN if you don't want to... it is not that it is important, it is just simply more convenient at times.

You can set up your POP3 mail by following that section of the FAQ list on this board or the Tips page. Your phone has a help file that will show you how pretty clearly. If you have a specific question that the manual or FAQ does not answer... please post it.

Type Ramble in the search field and here is what you'll find....

In regards to status as pending...whoever you made the request to has not accepted it yet.

Your BB's Pin is very important as it helps distinguish itself from other bb's and is used for integrating your pop 3 email addresses with the Blackberry Internet Service account.

Per your carrier's manual, you can go to the Blackberry Internet Service site (or Web Client), set up an account using your PIN and IMEI codes to the account and then log into the account and begin adding your pop 3 emails to it so that the BIS will help push all those emails you get from your pop 3's to your bb.

Think of this as telling the BIS account your Blackberry's "home address". The PIN and IMEI codes on your Blackberry are it's "home address". The BIS account is your post office sending you mail to your "home address" everyday and without it, your "post office" won't know where to send your emails to.

You can also send PIN messages to other Blackberry users by obtaining them from your friends/family/colleagues who also have Blackberries and by going to MESSAGES -> clicking the trackwheel and choosing "COMPOSE PIN" -> typing in their PIN # and the message you want to send them -> and selecting "SEND". Think of this as sending an email only it's a PIN message you are sending to them instead.

Hope this helps

No; you must have a BlackBerry Data Plan in order to use Pin to Pin messaging.
