Lightbulb Ebay Blackberry! - 08-02-2006, 11:16 AM

I am in the midst of purchasing a blackberry off of EBAY I have a phone plan with rogers and when I phoned the sales rep asking if I could switch my sim card from my phone to the blackberry (not telling him it was from ebay) he said that i should be fine and I could create an account online from the rogers site and I would need the PIN & the IMEI #'s although I am not sure where to get those from? I have emailed the seller. Anyways I was wondering if anyone with rogers has done this or any advice on this topic

Thank you

1) Make sure that the BlackBerry is either Rogers branded or unlocked. What model BB are you purchasing?

2) Ask the seller if it has an IT Policy on it. If yes, have them remove it.

3) Get the IMEI number and check with the carrier to see if it is listed as stolen.

There are way too many stories here about problems with BBs bought on eBay...

7100t is for T-Mobile, are you a T-Mobile subscriber? If not you better hope it's unlocked?

Did the seller have enough good feedback to make this an improbable occurrance? Lots of folks are forgetful or just lazy and leave old contacts on when they sell. Others are just plain stupid and leave important info behind.

I got a 8700g last week from a very succesful NYC attorney on ebay. I only knew who he was and the firm by the emails, contacts and the appointments left in the 8700. One of his bookmarks was an escort service in S Florida, funny stuff. The calendar alone had over 300 entries, conference calls and dial in codes. I wiped it after I finished being nosey

I got a deal on an old one but it had BES on it but I want to use it as a BIS. I have the data plan with tmobile. I have the 7100g btw, unlocked and all to run tmobile. I did the wipe and reinstalled everything. The funny thing is I still get messages that are not mine (from cingular). How is this possible? Did the BES force any emails/messages from the old phone? Now how do I get rid of this? Ideas?

i use to have a unlocked 7100t on rogers. u dont need to call rogers to hook it up just put your sim in and it should work (if its unlocked).u might have to go to rogers.com and download there settings.

I've bought two BB's off ebay had no problems with the devices or the sellers. Then again, i won't buy anything from an ebay seller w/feedback rating of less than 1000 or at least 99% positive feedback from a rating of less than a thousand.

Look for the thread on removing BES security policy after leaving company.
