I knocked out those other themes, and that RSA cod, everything seems fine. Almost at 22 MB free.

I couldn't get rid of that nice 1.6 MB Zen theme :( Some freaky stuff happened lol. (I guess then Zen theme is the one with the icons going along the bottom lol.)

I use the VAD once a while so I probably am not going to delete them. (not yet anyway that will free almost 2MB in itself).

Thanks again!

Thanks, great guide!!
This is my first BB (AT&T Curve) i went through all your steps once looking everything over, than i went through it again doing the actual changes. I do use the voice dialing so i kept that stuff. but i deleted some other stuff and got the BB Maps.

Worked perfectly, just follow the directions given and you should have no troubles doing it.

Thanks again.

I followed this sticky... had to do a few things before... kinda had bricked my pearl on purpose.... not before backing it up though. But I did follow this and now I have all that I need and use and still have more than half of the device memory available!

This sticky ROCKS!

Default Help Error Code 507

I screwed something up. Namely I did not follow instructions.

I tried upgrading to a4.2.2.190 instead of a4.2.2.174 which was what was on my blackberry and make all the edits you described at the beginning of this email, all in one step. The edits where easy but while updating my OS the software said it could not find critical file and then whammo, said restore prior copy. Since this 8310 was new to me without any email, tasks, addresses etc on it yet I did not bother backing up.....not realizing the real purpos eof backing up was not in case you lost data but to restore OS in event the upgrade did is not work. Now of course the desktop software cannot find blackberry on my usb hub and my blackberry is grey with an icon that has a circle around it with a line through it with the number 507 under it??

Am I screwed?

Denton

No, you're not screwed. 507 simply means no OS is on your device. You should be able plug back in to Desktop Manager, run application loader and it should detect your device and reload the OS. You may want to reinstall the OS to the PC (don't forget to delete the vendor.xml again) and load the OS normally again before making the edits.

Default JC - Optimize BB memory query

Jc

before I thank you for your detailed and informative suggestions, I'd like to ask for some assistance.

If anyone else can help - great.

I followed the steps to free up space on my 8300 but when I went to update my curve by connecting to my pc I got the hourglass and white screen for hours. Finally I disconnected the curve and it is still showing the hour glass. Reboots, battery disconnects, etc. nothing seems to help.

What do I do now?

Thanks, Jeremy

I'm not sure what you deleted but you'll need to do the following:

How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ

What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ

I would reinstall the OS to the PC before reloading the OS. Then start over again after that.

Unhappy No idea what else to try...please help...

Alright so I followed every step of the "Optimize your BB! How To Setup for max free memory!" article. I installed a new OS and weeded out .cod files that I did not want. I just can't figure out how to get all of the new .cod files (new themes, etc.) onto my phone. I have tried adding them through AppLoader but it just comes up with an error message...I'm stuck...someone please help!

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks Again!

If you are "trying to add them through apploader" then you are not following the instructions. Read through the instructions again and follow them step by step.

Smile BB Maps Icon

I installed BB Maps as instructed but I can't get it to install or show a icon however it does show up in applications. Other then then it works great. Thanks for the tips!

PS: is there a way to get rid of unused icons that no longer have the programs installed?:

You need to go back and edit the platform.alx file and make sure all the vendor coding is removed. BBMaps should show on the ATT 8100 if the vendor coding is properly removed.

I've got a prepaid curve, and there's this really annoying tone that I can't seem to get rid of after everything... is there any back door to removing it?

Default At&t 8120

Wow, thanks for the wonderful information. Simply fantastic.

One small issue has arisen, however, after going through these steps. I have an AT&T 8120 but I can no longer connect via Wi-Fi. I removed the AT&T theme and the Push to Talk stuff so I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I've heard that the Wi-Fi will only work if you have a data plan with AT&T (which I do) so I wonder if one of the things I removed actually enable the Wi-Fi.

Any ideas? I'll play around a little myself and hopefully figure something out.

Connect to EDGE. Then go to Options >Advanced Options >Host Routing Table >menu key --Register Now.

That should push all the service books. Then reboot the device by removing the battery and reinserting. Then try connecting to your wifi again.
