This may not be the problem but some users have reported that T-mobile had not released the blackberry with RIM and were unable to use the phone. The SIM at a minimum should allow you to use the BB as a phone. The other issue is some carriers disable the SIM if the PUC code is entered wrong. This may not be the issue but calling Virgin may be the best step. See if they can activate it for the BB data plan. If that works your all set if not you might try upgrading the OS to see if it helps.
