I have a protection plan w/ T-mobile on my 9780 if take the sim card out and go to the store to get a new one. Would t-mobile block my old one?

I am having a hard time trying to figure out what you said, but do you mean would they block the SIM number or do you mean the PIN / IMEI of the device.
or did you send it back with the SIM card in it?

If anything they will not block the PIN / IMEI
If you send back the SIM card in the device, but got the new device and a new SIM then you should have no worries about the SIM card being activated again as you will have the active SIM in your new device. only one SIM card will be active on the telephone number at a time. and if it gets sent back to RIM which most are they will see the SIM and destroy it most likely as every device that goes back should be properly inspected for Physical and liquid damage.

hope that helps, Cheers
