Default Can't turn on Mass Storage Support

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All,

I have a new BB 8520 Curve.

I have been tring to put some music on to the phone but without success. My PC will not recognise the phone/media card as a drive.
I've been into the Options, Memory menu and the Mass Storage Mode Support is marked as "Off". There is a red triangle/padlock next to the word "off".
I can't change the setting to "on". When I press the menu to change it the only options I have are:-
Help
Remove Media Card
Format
Save
Switch Application
Close

Has anyone any ideas on how I can change the setting to "on".

Thanks
Django

Still no luck. When I highlight "off", press menu, there is no option to turn it "on". This has been locked somehow. The phone is brand new and I've not locked it up. I've been trying various things all day and I just can't get it to change.

I guess I go back to my media player for tunes.

Sounds like IT policy.

Is the device new, or new to you (used/secondhand)?

If not IT policy as suggested by aiharkness, try doing a format on the card in the blackberry. You cannot read a card thats not formatted.

KB10527-Media card cannot be read. Verify that the memory card is formatted

If on BES then IT Policy almost certainly the answer.

Tsac,

The card fomats OK. It's the mass storage and not showing on my PC (windows 7 home) that are the problem.

If it's a company BlackBerry set up by your IT Department, then it's probably been setup on the Enterprise service. You can google BES, but bottom line is the IT admin pushed a policy to the device which controls or limits what you can do. Sounds like the device is allowed to use the media card, but not mass storage mode. That's why you see the lock and unable to enable mass storage mode.

have you tried downloading desktop manager from RIM( it's free) and using the media manager included?

BlackBerry - Support & Services then go to downloads

Aiharkness

You were quite correct it was IT policy. Our IT dept have taken my phone, worked some "magic" and all is now well. Thank you for your sage-like advise.

Happy you got it sorted. Actually I'm surprised the IT folks changed it for you. I don't think many are so lucky.
