This morning I tried opening up my SMS but it wouldn't open.. said something was wrong with the javascript or something. Everything else was opening up fine so I turned the phone off and took the battery out. Now it keeps loading up to about 3/4 of the way and it just freezes there! I've tried connecting it to the computer but I can't backup my files coz there's no way I can type the password in off the phone... somebody please helppp.. I don't wanna have to reset the whole thing coz my files aren't backed up :(

if doesnt want to load and you can connect to computer, you have to re install device software

Try using loader.exe

got to
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\AppLoader

there you will see loader.exe file
try using that its makes backup automatically

good lack
and always make a back up at least once a week

1. you have to go and download device software for you blackberry
BlackBerry - BlackBerry Desktop and Device Software Download Sites
2. you have to install that software on your computer
3.then you have open loader.exe
navigate to
my computer> local disk C> program files> common files>research in motion>apploader
4 double click on loader file (looks like small cell phone)
and follow instructions

Before you do anything else, remove the battery while the BlackBerry is powered on, and wait about thirty seconds before replacing the battery. Give it 15 or 20 minutes to see if it will boot. I've read one instance where under similar circumstances it took 30 minutes for the BlackBerry to boot.

If it doesn't boot, then go ahead and wipe the BlackBerry and reload the OS.

I've done everything up to the point where it's trying to connect to the device.. and it's been there for a good 20 minutes now. Is there something wrong?

You need to wipe the device first.

Wiping ...........

How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ

What to do next if Jl Cmder will not connect and wipe - BlackBerryFAQ

Then install the OS.

Yes. But you can try booting in safe mode and then try a full backup, beforehand.

Remove the battery and then replace it. When the LED turn off, hold the back key. Then select ok at the notice that the device is in safe mode.

I've tried opening it in safe mode so many times but it's just freezing at exactly the same place.. that means it's completely messed up right? Best thing to do would be just wipe the whole thing and lose everything?

Good luck. Take it slow, one step at a time.

Ahh thanks.. feels like the end of the world when your blackberry isn't around!
One more question..
I have warranty that lasts for another few months or so. Do you think if I sent the bb off to them there's a chance they could fix it and recover my files as well?

I'm fairly certain no one can do any better, not unless they can get the device to boot.

See http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/dynam...C&kcId=KB17877 and make sure you were following the correct procedure to start in safe mode.

At any rate, if you do a warranty exchange by mail, the carrier will send you a refurb and you will send you unit back and never see it again.

You could try going into a store and seeing if they can get it to boot for you.
