I followed another thread here in this forum which is now closed. Since there was no solution indicated, I wanted to share what worked perfectly in my case.

The situation: I'm on a BES (t-mobile Germany), my gf in Canada on BIS (carrier unknown to me). I received her PIN msg and BBM requests but whatever I sent back or when I accepted we got stuck as pending in our contact lists.

Then I found this somewhere

and sent it to our IT department and voila it works like a charm.
