Default Unable to Sync Contacts With Outlook

Hello,

I am trying to sync my outlook 2010 contacts with BB 9550 using DM V6.xxx. Unfortunately I had to wipe out the device completely after applying the latest OS update which screwed up my contacts and calendar.

The synchronization starts ok and I can see that 659 entries are about to be copied to the BB (as this is the first synchronization after the wipeout). However the synchronization fails at record #452 with some generic error message. I tried this several times and it always fails at the same entry (#453). Since I don't know how DM sort the outlook contacts before importing them to the device, I am unable to locate the actual entry that is causing the issue.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced similar issue and if there are any workarounds. I tried searching for some log files hopping to find a more specific information about the entry that causes the issue but to no success.

Here is the information about my hardware/software:

Device: Storm2 9550
OS Version: 5.0.0.1015 (bundle 1656, Platform 4.2.0.442)
Desktop Manager: 6.0.2.44
MS Office 2010
PC OS: W7 Ultimate 64-bit

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do a search on the internet for an .ipd file reader and it should allow you to find the corrupt record in the backup file.

Thanks tsac. I downloaded the tool and browsed the backup file. Didn't see any issue with any of the address book entries.

Just to clarify, The error I described in my original posting happens when I try to import directly from outlook.

If I try to restore the backup, the process completes with no errors. however when I look at my address book on the device I see one name repeated a couple of hunderds times.

Check the address in Outlook that seems to fail. Delete it if you can then retry.
Some entries in Outlook may look ok but sometimes when a hidden or odd character is in the address it will cause issues.

Great, this is exactly what I was looking for. however I suspect the issues are related to the latest update I applied (Bundle 1656) to the OS.

While I was able to identify the "bad" outlook entry and remove it using the tif log, I am now experiencing the same issue that I experienced when restored the backup after applying the OS update and which made me think a clean synchronization may solve the problem.

for some reason, one of the entries is duplicated by something like 200 at the top of the address book. The same entry also shows up in its normal position in the address book (my address book is sorted by first name).

I took the following actions which resulted with the following strange behavior:

1. Updated the contact (in any of the duplications) and the changes were reflected in all duplicates including the actual entry.

2. Deleted one of the entries - The "valid" entry was deleted but the duplicated entries on top of the contact list became blank lines. Trying to click on any of the duplicated blank entries, opened the "Add New Contact" window.

3. Added new contact on the device - the blank duplicated entries got filled with the new contact and basically duplicated the new entry.

I rolled back the OS to V5.0 (bundle 1206) and did a clean synchronization. All entries shows up correctly and I got no errors, including the entry that was flagged as bad. I have to conclude the issues seem to rely with Bundle 1656 and Storm2 compatibility.

Since this update was pushed through the DM, I assumed it was tested and confirmed with Storm2 devices. however it looks like it wasn't. Makes you wonder whether to trust any future updates as this has already taken 2 working days of my time. Quite disappointing.

I have the same issue. I have used the Blackberry Desktop Software to sych my Outlook 2007 contacts, calendar, and tasks to my Windows 7 Professional IBM laptop.

The latest verson of the software (bundle 1656) INSTANTLY caused my contacts on my BB to be wiped out and replaced with 657 blank entries. My calendar and tasks still sync correctly. BB has a bug in that release which it needs to fix ASAP.

My only fix is to wipe the BB of all data and reload through Google, a longer and slower process that does NOT allow any changes on the BB to populate back to Outlook on the PC. I look forward to BB's patch. Thanks.
