When I connect my 9800 to the USB port on my IBM think pad t43 running Win xp sp3 nothing happens. Device manager does not show BB device.
no plug and play activity starts

I have uninstalled desk top software, shutdown PC, booted pc and reinstalled it.

I have tried hooking the 9800 to all usb ports and usb ports work with flash drives and other things.

I have connected with and without the battery in the 9800.

I have uninstalled the usb entries in Device manager and rebooted the PC so it reinstalls USB hubs.

Cable will work to recharge the 9800 and I have installed the "special" driver to make recharging available.

9800 will connect with Bluetooth.

Any other suggestions?

Are you using the USB cable that came with the device? Try a different cable. I have witnessed some that will charge but not connect Desktop Manager.

Make sure that you are using a data/power cable and not a power only cable.

Also check the sticky at the top of the BB help section, Desktop Manager will not connect/detect my BB

Problem with win xp sp3? You can install blackberry desktop manager for another pc
Or try connect with new cable.

I spoke to AT&T after the phone center store could not get the 9800 to connect either. The Store personnel suggested it was a phone issue and needed to be replaced. AT&T warrenty support wants to send me a new cable.

Therefore, I am currently waiting for the cable to arrive so I can confirm it is not a cable issue. (though the phone center store personnel used multiple cables to no avail).

I will post after I test with the new cable. Though the cable I am using is the cable that was supplied with the phone.

However, I know my 8310 phone has a cable with a cylinder where some hardware could be installed but the torch cable does not contain this.
