My husband and I bought two new BB Curve 8520s about a year ago and my phone has allowed updates to version 5 software but my husbands phone won't update. It keeps saying that it's only available to those with an active BB subcription.

What i don't understand is why one phone allowed the upgrade but the other didn't and is stuck with version 4.6.

The only difference between the two is that when the boxes were opened, my phone had a new sim card and i used that one, but the sim card for my husbands phone was missing so he used his existing sim.

Both phones were registered with orange at the same time but that's about the only difference.

Can anyone shed any light on why one phone allows the upgrade and the other doesn't?

Does he have a BB data plan on that account? That message typically means no BB dataplan or bolt on has been detected.

Not that i know of, but then neither do i so why could one phone upgrade and not the other?

Have solved the riddle. Orange have now updated my husbands profile and he now has version 5 of the software.
