when i text someone, sometimes my message doesnt send for 20 min or so even though it said it did send. also with receiving texts, yesterday i got a text 24 minutes after they said they sent it? any ideas how to fix it or why?

That's a carrier thing. Report it to Koodo and see what they say. Normally it's a regional thing with a carrier. Sprint had a slowdown a week or so ago that affected the northeast. Not everybody, but most folks felt it. Server maintenance or some such nonsense was the unofficial cause that I was given.

Sometimes your device will not re-establish it's connection with your carrier's infrastructure after a glitch like this. Remember, data comes from RIM, voice and sms come from your carrier. A battery pull is always a good idea for fixing this connectivity.
