Exclamation 9700 bricked or just plain done ?

Please Login to Remove!

While trying to upgrade my phone using the Desktop Manager to get the v6 on my phone the cpu froze and it restarted & i acknowledged the "if interrupted the phone can be unusable" & all that happens now is my phone has a black screen & the indicator blanks twice, stops & does it repeatedly. I tried EVERYTHING so far.. what should i do next ?

It sounds like you used more than just BlackBerry Desktop Manager. Perhaps some "illegal" software? If your PIN comes up as 0 then you've tampered with the inner workings and you're done. Bricked. That's what usually happens when folks mess with this stuff.

Under normal operations, a BlackBerry is almost never truly bricked. But once the illegal software is used to mess with the hard coding from the factory all bets are off.

It should be noted that we don't discuss this software here. It was stolen from RIM and distributed illegally. And it's just plain dumb to mess with it.

You might want to try software such as BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife to wipe the phone to a state where Desktop Manager recognizes it. Don't give up.

If nobody tried doing something fancy with this un-named illegal software, then perhaps there is a chance. If somebody DID use it then you're wasting your time.

Try downloading JL_Commander to wipe your 9700.
How do I wipe the BlackBerry using Jl Cmder? - BlackBerryFAQ

Use your pc to download the latest OS version for the 9700 (doesn't matter if it's not a T-Mobile version) from the sticky HERE. Follow the FAQ instructions for upgrading your OS: How do I upgrade the OS on my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ
Be sure to delete the vendor.xml file once you download and install the OS onto your pc. I forgot this step once and almost ripped out all my hair trying to figure out why the install process ground to a halt. Just look at my profile picture to see the result! Before the attempt to upgrade my OS I looked like freakin' Fabio!

I have no idea if that would work. Sounds complicated, and it's rarely necessary to get that involved. Sometimes using JL_Commander can take multiple attempts. Stick with it and you'll get results.

When finally reloading the OS onto a BlackBerry (after JL_Commander runs and you get the "error 507" report - no os loaded on device) I have had better results running AppLoader.exe instead of just the basic Deskotp Manager. AppLoader.exe is included in DM but is accessed through the command line in Windows.
