You need a BB data plan for maps to work.

Most of the map apps only download the map section it needs for your current position. As you move a new section is downloaded, making WiFi usage not relevant.

Check out our GPS & Maps section for more information and reviews on most of the map applications.

When you do validate that you have a Blackberry Data Plan this may help.

You might be able to get latitude and longitude only without a BB data plan. The BB has to download the ephemeris table to know which satellite to look for and where to look. That might require data, but I am not certain. Could come via the GPS signal.

The BB is much different from the iPhone and Nokia.
