hey guys, I am a newbie to the blackberry 9700 and i dropped it in water a week ago it was in there for a minute. I took the battery out and when i got home I placed the phone and battery separately in a tupper ware full of rice. I took it out today the phone was working fine. Until I accidently pulled the battery out while it was on. Now the red light goes on for few seconds but phone wont turn on. I tried connecting it to a charger the red light come on and goes off does it few times and then totally dies out. Would appreciate if someone could help me out.

Remving the battery while the device is on is not a propblem. In fact that is what is done when performing a hard reset.

Is the battery the same one that was in the device when it went into water? If so, your best case scenario may be the device is ok but the battery is damaged. If you can borrow a battery, that would be the thing to do, as a test.

If you are working with a new battery -- not the one that got wet -- then I think it looks bad for the device. You can go through the usual troubleshooting steps (search on BlackBerry won't turn on) but I suspect it will be a waste of time.

Yes, I got a new battery and still doesnt work. What I dont understand is that when i pulled it out from the rice i put it back together and it turned on and everythign was working until i pulled the battery out. Thats when it died out. Just a little confused.

I'm focusing on the fact that the BlackBerry was in water for a minute. The failure happening when you pulled the battery (or maybe when you put the battery back in) may be coincidence, or something was on the hairy edge of failure and the battery pull did the trick. Who knows.

As I say, you can troubleshoot as if it never got wet. Remove the microSD card if there is one installed. Make sure the battery is good, and charged. Try and wipe with JL_CMDER and reinstall the OS.

But in your case, if the BlackBerry will not even power on at all now, I believe it's time to scrap it and get another.
