Default Device Password Protect on Curve 8520

Please Login to Remove!

I recently downloaded a lock app to lock my handheld and key apps that I want privacy for. For both, a password is required. I am currently using the lock app on apps only, as I have discovered an in-built BlackBerry password setting under Options however, I am not sure if this setting is to password protect the whole handheld or for a feature on the phone. I would like to use it to password protect my phone from any kind of useage, if that's what its for. Also, if it is for this - I notice there is no option to type the password in twice to check that both passwords match and you don't lock yourself out of your own phone!? However, it does have a: 'Change password' option, which makes me think it might not be for the handheld but for the Password Keeper.
If anyone could tell me for certain what this is for - I would be grateful & if its not for device password protecting, if Curve's come with a BlackBerry in-built one or not, before I go ahead and use my downloaded app to do this.

Also, my BlackBerry automatically locks with the BlackBerry Curve keypad lock feature that comes as standard (part of the phone) and which is unlocked using the play button - as I have the downloaded app to do this with, I would like to disable this auto feature so that it doesn't conflict with the downloaded app but also b/c I find it annoying the way it locks automatically after so long, especially as I never wanted it in the first place. Thanks.

Just my opinon but delete all the third party apps and use the included password lock already on the BB. It will provide full security and if the device is stolen it will wipe all your data after 10 tries at the password. Also you can download desktop manager form RIM( it's free) and do a backup of all your data to your PC.

BlackBerry - Support & Services then to downloads

Password info.

Thks 4 your reply tsac.. I did this a few hours before I got your post b/c it was buggy. Then I did a search via my BlackBerry help option in setup (might be stored elsewhere as standard, as Iv moved things around a lot so I find them easier to locate) and clicked on help which took me to BlackBerry answers & it confirmed this password answer IS for the whole device & if the password is entered incorrectly ten times it wipes all personal data from the handheld. (Anyone using it-make sure 'Owner' under options only contains info u want made public, b/c it appears on the desktop after the screen locks. Shortly after activated device's own password, received an email from Tgrape support in reply to my email saying the lock (Tgrape, in this instance) offered no security, so as well as being problematic (like locking apps I didn't select it to lock), it was a total waste of money..
