I have discovered an option in Options & Advanced Options to enable security on my SIM card. If I select enable - will I or anyone else be locked out until I enter a code?

And I am told I need my PIN, but don't know where to find it..?

You really should leave those features alone. They come from your carrier with the correct settings for that particular carrier.

There is a PIN Code for your SIM card that you get from your carrier.
There is a PIN Number for your BlackBerry that you can find under Options > Status.

Enabling security would be a useful option to protect my SIM card against ID fraud, etc - so would like to know how to do this, as currently I am only protecting the handheld with a password lock but in the event my phone is lost or stolen I assume the data wipe after 10 failed password entries will only wipe the rest of the phone's memoryu but not the SIM.. correct me if I am wrong.

I already know my general BlackBerry PIN b/c I use it all the time, but thks anyhow. I am seeking a PIN code, which is different, for protecting my SIM which I think is entirely sensible & if done correctly, I don't see the need to be concerned about carrier settings, as any changes can always be reversed..

There is a PIN2 code option in the BB menu key that I need to understand the relevance of.

What information is contained on the SIM card that is making you so concerned?

Be very sure you talk to the carrier for other details they may have.



Protect your SIM card with a PIN code
To obtain your SIM card PIN code, contact your wireless service provider.
Note: If you type the SIM card PIN code incorrectly three times, your SIM card does not function.
1. On the Home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.
2. Click Advanced Options.
3. Click SIM Card.
4. Press the Menu key.
5. Click Enable Security.
6. Type your SIM card PIN code.
7. Press the Enter key.
Change the SIM card PIN code
1. On the Home screen or in a folder, click the Options icon.

5. Click Change PIN2 Code.
Change the display name for a phone number
If your SIM card supports more than one phone number, you can personalize the display name for your phone numbers.

4. Highlight a phone number.
5. Press the Menu key.
6. Click Edit SIM Phone Number.
7. Type a display name for the phone number.
8. Press the Enter key.

You don't think he's saving his contacts etc... to his SIM card do you?

All you can save is phone numbers. Not the best of ideas...

Storing contacts on SIM cards went out with dumbphones. Today it's all about the cloud baby!
