Exclamation Bold 9700 Blinks once and four times rapidly

Please Login to Remove!

I have a Bold 9700 worked fine a week ago went to use it today and I turned it on and the red LED light came on and remained solid . No boot up or screen image at all. I plugged it in to my computer and it started blinking 4 times rapidly and then once over and over again. There is No Water Damage to the device :(

BlackBerry Desktop Manager recognizes the BOLD and the computer makes a "Device connected tone" but it does not show up in My Computer.

I have tried EVERYTHING I can find online to restore the software but I am at a complete loss on what to do. One thing I did notice when the phone worked was that there was a memory card read error. I rhink it said it was corrupt or could not be formatted.. Does this have anything to do with it either??

I have done command prompt and JL_Cmndr and also Javaloader... and so on.

Is there anyone that can help me please???? I am thinking something just needs to be reloaded but the BlackBerry is not communicating with PC therefore I am at a loss...

I am running Windows 7 and am pretty computer savy and also great at following directions. LOL!!!

Thanks you kindly.

The blinking indicates some form of error and generally is a lack of basic applications or part of the OS.

Pull out the memory card and see if that helps. Also some PC's have hub ports that the BB does not work well with. Try different ports.

If you get the BB to work with the DM then it should work with JL_cmrd so you can reload the OS clean. Also search the forum and you will find a few posts on how to use the JL and other available software to reload the BB.

This link is the info RIM has available. Close to your issue.

I have tried everything stated above. When I am in command prompt I can get to "COMMON FILES" but as soon as I type in "RESEARCH IN MOTION" I get the following error "The system cannot find the path specified"

Does anyone know what the LED blinking 4 times means? I have read stuff about 3 times but nothing on 4 times.

It is still picking it up in DM, I think. It says "BlackBerry Bold 9700" at the top, I just cannot control anything from there. Here is a screen shot as you can see DM recognizes it as a Bold 9700 but my computer does not. Also, in device manager it is recognized as a BlackBerry as well.

I get the same screen if i try to connect via a USB hub port but it connects when on a direct USB port. It seems unlikely but maybe your PC only has hub ports. The other issue is most if not all laptop port replicators have hub ports. disconnect it and try direct connection. It may be worth trying on a different PC.
The blinking LED is an indication of missing applications or OS but unless you can get DM to see the BB you may be unable to fix this problem.
Does Swiss Army Knife see the BB? if it does not you have either a bad USB port or the BB is defective. One last thing, make sure your using a good data cable designed for the BB. Not all cables are correct and even though they will charge the BB the data pins are wrong.

Im not getting anything with Swiss Army Knife either. So I am guessing that I should just junk ??? I mean I really don't want to I want to fix it. Its just so frustrating when noting is working.

Did anyone see the screen shot?

When using SAK It says that there is no device...... :((((

****Also I have noticed that the phone LED does not blink until you try to access the device. Like in update for DM (retry, update or close) or if I try to use AppLoader and as soon as it says "connecting to device (ARM)..."

Thank you again for all your help!!!!

Perhaps you should try a different version of Desktop Manager. Completely delete the one you have installed now and download a fresh copy from RIM's site. This helped me on both Windows XP and Windows 7. As for Vista, well, not much can help that.

Tried the older version suggestion and it connects to the JVM, Connects to device (intel), but as soon as it tries to complete the "connect to device (ARM)" it does not go any further. In the progress bar it is on step "3 of 4" and the bar indicates it is trying to "Upload RAM image"

That sounds like either a computer problem (Vista, too little RAM) or a corrupted download. First, try restarting the pc. Next I'd reinstall a fresh copy of DM and download the OS again after deleting it from your pc (and emptying the trash).
