sounds like your battery has drained too much try taking battery out plugging into mains charger not the computer leave for about 15secs then put the battery back into the handset then wait about 10 to 15 mins the charging sign should show up just leave it start up on its own

The first issue is the battery is dead. Check the cables to insure they are not defective. Also are you using the original cables or are these replacements or just something that fits? The reason DM does not see the BB could be the PC USB port is a Hub port. This will not allow the BB to function fully and on some PCs it wont charge. You need to check the owners manual or online to se which port is a direct USB port. Also try using not the AC charger that came with the BB. As for the message stating "new hardware detected" that is an indication something is seen by the PC and possibly the data pins are not fully connected. You might consider replacing the data cable but make sure it's a blackberry cable not a knockoff.
