Default Unable to sign up on Vodafone Blackberry plans in India

I recently ordered a Blackberry Tour online in India. I have been unable to activate the blackberry services with my carrier (Vodafone India) on the phone. On checking with them, they informed me as the piece is from Verizon wireless and since Verizon and Blackberry have terminated their tie-ups, I wont be able to use it. I tried registering online on vodafone india's website also, but I got an error message saying the device is not recognised.

I have also unlocked the phone but still not able to access BB services. Also instead of EDGE next to the coverage bars, i get 'edge'.

How do I solve this problem?

You were misinformed about Verizon and BlackBerry. Verizon still offers BlackBerry devices and services.

However, Verizon is primarily a CDMA carrier, and even though the 9630 Tour has a SIM card slot, it is primarily a CDMA device. Vodafone is a GSM/UMTS provider, and likely not have the service books required to use the 9630 on their network with their SIM card. Your best bet is to return the 9630 and purchase one of the devices that Vodafone sells and therefore supports.
