Guys, I just got an 8350i. I am with Sprint Nextel. I can make calls and receive calls no problem. When I first got it, I couldnt receive or send texts. After some forum searching, I was able to find some changes that allows me to send texts with no problem now. However, I cannot solve not being able to receive texts problem. Tech support didnt resolve the issue. Shocker!! Any ideas? Thx


Sprint is now telling me that the Blackberry will not work unless I get on their data plan. I just want to be able to send texts and receive them. When I asked how it was possible for me to be sending texts but not receivingthem, they said they didnt know. I think they are screwing me.

If the carrier is telling you it wont work then they may be blocking the service unless you get a Blackberry Data plan. some carriers will automatically add a BB data plan and most customers have a negative reaction to the cost. you need to look at the plans offered and make a choice.

why do you think it should work after they told you it wont?

As this is an iDEN device, it cannot send and receive text messages in the traditional manner. All messages are technically sent as MMS, not SMS. Hence, you do need a BlackBerry data plan to do any sort of messaging on this device.

well originally Sprint told me I could send but not receive messages because my new Blackberry EMIE didnt match the simcard. She told me once the old sim card matched the new BlackBerry EMIE, it would work for SMS texts.


So what is going on when I compose and send an SMS text and that works fine everytime?

It may be some form of bug in their systems. Give up get a plan.
