The easiest way may be with Desktop Manager. Click to upgrade the device software. If you are running the OS6 released by your carrier, Desktop Manager will tell you that you are running the latest version. Click other versions, or whatever, to show other options. Select OS 5 and proceed.
If you aren't running your carrier's latest OS6, then you won't get the message that you are running the latest device software, but the idea will be the same...look for the button or link or whatever to display other options, and then select OS5.
Or, you could wipe the device with JL_CMDER (see blackberryfaq.com) and then load the latest OS5 for the 9700 using the guide in the sticky thread near the top of the 9700 forum.
