Okay tried to post this 20 times not working, gonna start it with a small message then paste my original below...

Hi,

First just want to say I'm not being lazy with this post, have searched youtube, google and here at length, and this problem is not going away no matter what i try.

So, my screen has gone white, which seems to be a common problem. I don't know why it happened. One minute it was working fine, then (and this I haven't seen anywhere else) for the briefest moment a logo appeared at the top, think it was a tick in a light blue box, then screen faded. I did a standard battery pull and it loaded up as normal, but a few mins later it faded again.

Got home, took it apart, googled etc. Found that a white screen, with pink/green too, seemed to be a broken screen. Oh yeah, red light at top was still working an dlaptop recognised it, which also indicated it was just the screen.

First, i linked it to my laptop and backed everything up then tried downloading the latest software. made no difference.

Decided I'd have to get a new screen, so ordered it, went on youtube to find out how to take it apart, did so, and now just put the new screen in (def the right screen - checked the numbers on the back etc). I just turned it on expecting that to be the end of it, but it was white again - this time with two firm horizontal lines, blue/black. Left it a few minutes and now it's an all white screen that fades to a blueish colour.

One more thing, the little white tabs (litmus paper or something, I read) are both still white, so it's not water damage.

I've already spent £20 replacing the screen really don't wanna spend any more, and my contract doesn't run out until september so desperately need a fix.

Thanks to everyone who takes the time to read this regardless of whether you can help. And to anyone that has any suggestions will be glad to hear them.

The white tabs might not pick up moisture from being in a very humid place, i.e bathroom, your pocket, etc. Have you recently dropped the device?

Did you search the 9700 and help sections? I seem to recall several similar problems recently.

Just checked the 9700 section (not very good at navigating this site) and couldn't find anything the same as mine. In almost every other case a new screen seems to do the trick.

I didn't drop it or have it in a humid place. It was the most random breaking of a phone ever. And it's not cheap to replace.

Contemplating using a service on ebay that offers to fix it for about £50, has anyone tried this before? Will be irritating after splashing out on a screen but better than £200+ for a new one.

I don't want to keep using my old nokia. I feel like a 12 year old girl when i text from it. It's emasculating.

I would go to a local shop to repair as opposed to eBay. That way you know what you are getting. With eBay, you don't.

Think you're right, think I'll try Carphone Warehouse tomorrow. Wishing i hadn't bought this new LCD screen now. If I do go, I'll update with the results in case anybody else has a similar problem. It does seem these 9700s are made quite shoddily to me. Shame I find them so convenient or I'd look elsewhere.

Right, so I took it to Carphone Warehouse, they said they only fix phones bought there, even though I was willing to pay.

After that, went to a regular, small shop, where I explained the problem and the guy instantly said it was the screen. I told him I'd tried a new screen I'd got from ebay, and he said well how much did you pay, I said £20, he said he himself pays £35 for his stock so it must be a cheap/broken one. He said he'd get a new one and install it for £45 and if it didn't work I wouldn't have to pay.

Came back next morning, good as new. Everything working, no problems.

I managed to get a full refund from the guy on ebay but, unless you know you're getting a genuine screen, I'd recommend taking it to your local shop. It only took one night.

Please understand that not all countries have phone repair shops, so whilst that's great advice, it's not necessarily applicable.

This may be true in some instances but I'd guess that the vast majority of people who both own a BlackBerry and are web savvy enough to find their way here would live in a country that has at least one shop that attempts to fix broken phones.

Also I was just offering my experience, I am not a BlackBerry representative. Currently.

Actually no. A great number of the members of this forum are from the United States, where there are not really phone repair shops per se. Most carriers will offer repairs or warranty replacement, but there are very few independent places where one can walk in off the street and get a mobile repaired.
