Default 8520 Connection Issue

Please Login to Remove!

Hi All

New to Blackbery 8520 so go easy!!
Just trying to get to grips with my new 8520, and there are a few things that I am unsure about etc. that I hope you more knowledgeable people will be able to help me with.

I have set up my Blackberry 8520 to connect to my home wireless network. I have the WiFi logo on the top right of the screen, sometimes it is white but more often than not is is grey. My network name is displayed along the top regardless of whether the wifi symbol is white or grey (although sometimes the network name also disappears).

What does this mean? If it is white, does it mean that when I browse it will use the wifi rather than my data allowance? Also, when I try to browse when the wifi symbol is white, it appears at the top then disappears and goes back to GPRS - I guess this means that it is connecting via GPRS rather than wifi?

Is there a way to set the blackberry so that it preferentially connects to the wifi if it is available?

Sorry if this has been covered before.

Thanks, EddieEagle

All data will go via WiFi when it is active, unless you an app that specifically needs the cell data connection.

If the wifi symbol is white, it means you are connected.

Keep in mind that you still need a BB data plan for those apps that require a connection to RIM, i.e. email, BBM, FB, etc., even though the data flows via wifi when connected.

Thanks Dubdub

So basically it doesn't matter if the "wifi" symbol is white or grey, if I am connected then data should flow through the wifi, is that correct?

Sometimes when I browse I get an icon that is just to the left of GPRS, it is something like this (((i))). What does this mean (when this is showing does that mean I am connecting through wifi? I just don't want to needlessly use up my data allowance.

EMail seems to work fine!

If the WiFi symbol is grey, you are not connected to the WiFI access point.
