Default 9800 Trackpad random madness

Please Login to Remove!

Hello folks

This just presented itself this afternoon for no apparent reason; used it fine until about 130 pm today then went nuts.

Basically it wants to constantly scroll down. Every so often, it will open an app.

I tried pulling the battery.

I tried removing the battery and pushing the pad 5 times with it off.

Tried pushing it 5 items with the power on.

I installed the most recent OS 6.0 for this model

No change.

Has anyone else encountered this ?

I am 1.5 months out of warranty so I am none too pleased.

Did you drop it or get it wet?

What was the last thing you did before this happened?

Have you tried going back to your previous OS?

Negative to dropping or getting wet.

Last thing I did - was reading CNNSI after having sent someone a text. Finished my lunch break and went back to work. ON my afternoon break it was wonky. The only OS upgrade I did was installing the latest to see if it was a software issue.

Really sounds like it got wet. Do you carry it in your pocket?

Sometimes in my pants pocket, but rarely - going from my bedroom to other rooms throughout the house I might toss it in my pants pocket if I am carrying something. Every once in a while my inside coat pocket.

I have a screen guard, plus those rubbery bumper attachments the fall protecting bumper guard thing like otterbox but not otter box) plus a holster.

Whatcha thinkin ?

If it comes to that, what's a good reputable site to get a replacement trackpad (Amazon, I assume, unless otherwise specified?) and what am I replacing - just the pad? The housing ? Any boards ?

A virus is a possible cause of that one. They're not free of viruses right?

There is no easy way to tell what exactly is broken. Not trying to disagree with tsac. Just saying it could be more than just the trackpad. If you have a cell phone repair place near by, you might wanna engage them. If you're still interested in doing it yourself Amazon does indeed have OEM

Amazon.com: OEM Blackberry Torch 9800 Trackpad Trackball Touch Pad With Flex Cable: Cell Phones & Accessories

Here's a youtube video showing how to change it.. The process looks kinda advanced.
