Default Sound repeatedly clicks and drops out - Curve 8520

Please Login to Remove!

Can anyone help? My Curve 8520 has developed a fault - it clicks and drops the sound roughly every second or so. The ring tone breaks up when I dial out and any incoming call is fragmented, so conversation is impossible. (However it does work OK, via a plug-in headset, but that's not usually practicable)

Have you dropped the handset, got it wet? I'm guessing intermittent hardware problem associated with the speaker. You could try troubleshooting software. Start with a hard reset, then more extreme measures (security wipe, OS reload). If you go so far as to reload the software and it still happens with just the OS and native apps I would assume hardware problem.

Thanks Ira - I haven't dropped it or got it wet. It works OK with the headset plugged in. I've tried a hard reset - how can I reload the OS?

By the way, is the sound also good when on speaker phone?

You can reload the OS using Desktop Manager. In Desktop Manager, click Device, then update. If you are running your carrier's latest OS you will get a message that your software is up to date. Click View Other versions, select the currently installed version, then click Install. If there is an update available, you can follow the prompts to upgrade.

You could also install another OS version for your model. See at the top of the 8520 forum.

I'm thinking a bad speaker only because the headset jack works.
