I just received another Bold 9790 to replace my last one in which only the right side of the headset works. I have searched the problem elsewhere and there doesn't seem to be any solution that I could find. Some suggested it is actually a software issue caused by BB messenger. I uninstalled it but it is still the same. Others have suggested reloading the OS.
I have tried three different sets of headphones (the ones that come with the phone) and all have the same problem. If I pull the jack out slightly then both earbuds work fine but they will not hold in that position without wrapping an elastic arond the device. Is this not a hardware fault?
It's a hardware fault. I used to experience the same thing on my old 9700. The jack was poorly designed, and four-post plugs (e.g., the kind for stereo headphones with microphones) cannot always make the full connection needed.

Okay thanks. I was in touch with my carrier and they were not aware of any hardware faults regarding this. You would think if this was a known issue RIM might have taken steps to correct it.

Talked to our provider (Bell) and they just said "We will take note of the issue and basically once there are enough complaints/issues, then RIM will take the necessary steps to correct it" Nice. So basically you are SOL is what they are saying.
