Exclamation Need help getting MemoPad data for a Senior Executive

Please Login to Remove!

The company I work for only supports certain applications - they use Lotus Notes (ugh!) for the mail platform. One of the senior executives saved her passwords in MemoPad, and she didn't know (neither did I) that when her Blackberry's thumb wheel failed, that the MemoPad data would stay on the old device, and not sync with the BES server. It only syncs the Calendar, Mail, and Contacts wirelessly at my company. They don't really support or install the Desktop Manager anymore.

The Help Desk says it's unsupported, but I am trying to help her recover that data. She has a loaner Blackberry right now, and has a new one on order (Bold). I tried to help her sign onto the old Blackberry by moving the SIM card to the old device with the bad thumb wheel (we can still use the enter key instead) - but when I arrived someone already tried 7 times to unlock it with her old password, so there are only 2 tries left. The helpdesk said that because she has a loaner, the BES server won't let her system unlock the old Blackberry.

I don't know how true that is - maybe someone here knows for sure?

Can I just install the Desktop Manager, and then hit cancel for the password, and then do a backup using the Desktop Manger, and then restore to her loaner? It doesn't show up as a USB drive letter I think because the password is not being entered, but I am not sure. I have good general knowledge, but not when something weird comes up like this. There are only 2 people I know of in the group of people I work with that use MemoPad. I am going to train her to use a USB encrypted memory stick to store passwords instead of MemoPad, because of this situation.

Are there any suggestions to get her data? She has a lot of passwords stored on the old Blackberry that we can't seem to get to - I hope it's something simple to do.

The HelpDesk basically won't support her - so she is asking me for help. I just don't want to hit 10 bad passwords and wipe the data, so is there another way to get her MemoPad data off and available in any other format so she can write down her passwords?

Thanks so much in advance for any suggestions - I'm avid Blackberry user, and do general support of them, but never had a situation like this come up due to the low use of MemoPad.

Regards,
Steve2112

No, her password on her old device will still work and you'll definitely need it to do the backup. Once you do that, you should be able to extract the data from the IPD using ABC Converter.

Thanks - we did try her old password, but it would not take it in the old device - and she says it's the same one as the new loaner she has.

If the password does not work (we are up to 8 bad attempts) - is there any way to backup the data without the password? I haven't looked into ABC Converter yet - I will need to check that out. The Help Desk's suggestion of hitting cancel at the password prompt on the PC will not let you backup the data with the Desktop Manager I assume? Is there any hope if her password will not take on the device or on the PC? 2 more tries and it will wipe.....

Thanks (and I thanked you via the button)

Regards,
Steve

Unfortunately no, it will not backup without the password... And no, cancelling the prompt won't work as the device will simply not show up in DM. The only thing I can suggest is to make sure that you're not missing any capital letters, numbers, or special characters in the password. Do the two devices have the same keypad layout?
