So, the problem is more along the lines of the app hanging than being unable to open files or password not working.
For what it's worth, when apps don't launch, hang, or show other symptoms of corruption, sometimes the fix is to delete the app and reinstall. Have you tried that? If not, delete the app, do a hard reset, reinstall the app, and try again.
If the app seems to be working but just not working as advertised or not doing what you think it should, your best bet really is to contact the developer.
