Default Little 'clock' On Screen?

Please Login to Remove!

Hi, we are new to blackberry's!! (and our grandkids can show us up!) but, I was trying to sort out the hot spot whilst babysitting for my son tonight and now I have this little sort of 'clock' that keeps popping up in the center of the screen? only there for a couple of seconds. Can anyone tell me what it is and how I can get rid of it!! its sort of a timer thing?
We are learning....but some of it is way over our heads! Thanks
Marlyn
Could I also ask how long a battery should last? I have to charge it every day. Charged it fully at sons house tonight...ok, have been playing with it a bit and having fun bbm with my grandaughter (who is only 11 but a wizz kid!! shows us up!) but already its down to 1/2 way? Should I contact the supplier incase there's a problem?

The clock spinning is an indication of system use. It may be an App like facebook checking or something else using the system. Charging all depends on the use and location of the cell tower. the phone will constantly search for service if in a bad area. This causes higher battery drain.
Do not let the battery go below 20 % or it will very quickly go bad. LI batterys do not like full discharge.

Really cant find anything that is 'left on'? Perhaps it would help if I disconnect from the internet? and only connect when I want to use it if I am away from the computer?
I have not had this little clock think on the phone all week? but I must have done something tonight? Added BBM (or grandaughter added it) could it be that that is searching? if so, how do I disconnect it?
thanks for your reply and help! Marlyn

The icon is called the system is busy icon. The name perfectly explains what it indicates.

As tsac indicates, pay attention to what is open and running when it happens. But I suspect that with that device, the system busy icon piping up for a second here and there may be normal. Just make sure you fully exit and close apps when you aren't using them, don't leave the browser open to an active page, etc.

To add to what tsac said about battery, it would be a good idea to just charge the BlackBerry when you are sleeping. There is no need to purposely run the battery down. Topping off is good, and may prevent you getting stuck during the day with no battery left.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to see what might be running? Like on a laptop you can push control+alt+del to see what is running. I am having the same issue except my cursor is freezing and not usable while something is running. Thank you

Holding down the menu key to bring up the switch app ribbon will typically show you apps that are running, but there could still be apps that don't show. With the newer OS versions there is a screen in Application Management that breaks down CPU usage. Not sure whether you will have it or not. Only other step I can advise is check the options for each app, see if there is a setting to run in the background, and decide whether to disable or not. I would disable unless you really need the app running.
