| encrypted jpg.rem, Blackberry wiped Please Login to Remove! Really hope someone can help... I have very important family photos on my Blackberry Curve 9300's SD media card.
My IT Helpdesk WIPED my Blackberry rendering all of my photos encrypted and unreadable by anything (not the orig bbry, not a new bbry, not my pc). While the wiping process did not delete the files from the media card, they didn't advise about the encryption (yes, entirely my fault for having personal photos on a work device).
I've turned encryption off now (not possible when the device was attached to BES)..but files can't be copied to any other directory on the SD card via the bbry itself.
Basically, I need to decrypt the jpg.rem pretty much without my bbry.
Any, any, any suggestion are much appreciated ! | | Offline

| Re: encrypted jpg.rem, Blackberry wiped Thanks for the ideas.
The problem I have is that when trying to copy, I still get the message: "Media Card is secured by another device. Unable to access encrypted file."
I'm told this is because the device was fully WIPED and encryption is device specific. So, while I have my original blackberry (albeit with no data service right now), I still cant copy the files. (New photos are saved unencrypted, but that was just a test).
I'd be happy to download and converter to my pc reading the SD card, or do anything on the Blackberry for each photo. I'm just not having any luck! | | Offline

| Re: encrypted jpg.rem, Blackberry wiped unfortunately, I do not. I only have the photos on the SD card, now in format : jpg.rem
I do have the original blackberry, though it does not seem to be helping me since it thinks it's a different device. | | Offline

| Re: encrypted jpg.rem, Blackberry wiped If all data and applications have been deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone and Media Card Encryption was set to Device, the BlackBerry smartphone will no longer be able to access encrypted files. The following error message will appear:
Unable to display file filename.jpg.rem
This is by design as a security measure. | | Offline

| Re: encrypted jpg.rem, Blackberry wiped You CANNOT DECRYPT .rem files without using the BlackBerry unit that produced them. That's just how it is. There are no workarounds, no sekrit decoder software (outside of the NSA), and no chance of randomly cracking BlackBerry security. | | Offline

| .rem and .con files My phone got whipped after a several times trying to put my correct password, As i realized it was going to whip i removed the memory card and i let whip. After whipping i insterted the memory card and tried to restore the Blackberry messenger contacts. with the old back up but all the files couldnt load then i compied some to the phone memory but it kept saying Invalid file and others couldnt copy. When i checked the file extensions they are all labelled like this "BBM-(12-08-06-17-40).con.rem or BBM-(12-08-06-17-40).bak.rem"" Any ideas on how to restore all my contacts, thats the only backup i have, thank you very much | | Offline

| Re: encrypted jpg.rem, Blackberry wiped Regnick, is this your BlackBerry? Is it the orginal BlackBerry that encrypted the files?
The files could have been encrypted using the device key, or the user password, or both. If the device key was used, you need the original device. If the password was used, you need the password (that is, set that password as the device password). Posted via BlackBerryForums.com Mobile | | Offline

| Re: encrypted jpg.rem, Blackberry wiped Karide,
If you encrypted the media files on your media card using a media card encryption key and you are trying to open an encrypted
media file using your computer or a device other than the BlackBerry device that you used to encrypt the file, insert the media
card into the BlackBerry device that you used to encrypt the file. In the media card options, change the Encryption Mode field
to None or Security Password.
This is from RIM and there are other "possible" things to try.
Read this link but as stated above, normally you cannot recover but antthing is worth a try
page 155 for the top one http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/b...ListHelperImpl http://btsc.webapps.blackberry.com/b...ListHelperImpl
