Hi all. I recently bought a bb9700 for the bh. We are new to BB and didn't know anything about them. Basically it was for the keyboard.
We are on PAYG with Virgin.
Problem is, the phone keeps connecting to the internet on its own. I have disabled the Data services, but it still connects. Sometimes half a dozen times a day, sometimes not for a few days.
Help please.

Connects to the internet? how do you know , what is on the screen?

And if you disable data services in the device options, the device cannot use data.

Hi tsac. Don't know what's on the screen, it's in the wifes handbag.
It shows on the recent calls on the Virgin website. It says "using the internet" , 50p for the first connection then 0.00 for anymore. It's connected five times today so far.
There are no specific times, it all looks random.
I called Virgin, but they couldn't help because i forgot the password. They did say pull the battery, but that was it.
We haven't got any data services with Virgin or BB.

A Blackberry is intended to be used with a Blackberry data plan. You may or may not have purchased this option, whether you are aware or not.

The BlackBerry data plan is required to use apps and other services that are specifically BlackBerry.

A Blackberry can also use carrier data if the carrier APN is properly configured in TCP/IP options. This is possible even without the BlackBerry data plan, though only for apps that use the carrier network. And pay-per-use may have been enabled on your account by default.

All that said, if you want to be sure your device does not use data, then disable data services. If not, then it is possible the device may use data even for overhead communications with the network that have nothing to do with your using a data app.

As aiharkness said , disable the data services and it cannot connect to the internet. If your use still shows it is connecting and you are being charged then i would talk to a support manager at the carrier. With Data off the only thing it will do is make and receive calls.
Dont hesitate to ask for a manager.
