Delete emails

I set my bb9900 up, including emails. I received a bunch of emails that had been read already. I can't delet these emails. Any new emails coming in I can delete, but not the old stuff.
I've tried changing settings, as well as battery pulls. Nothing works. Can anyone help?

Did you set up on BES or BIS?

If BIS, did you use IMAP or POP?
