No service?

I just unlocked a blackberry bold 9700 that was with rogers. i put in a virgin mobile sim card but it keeps reading sos or searching for network. help please?

Either the BB is not unlocked or the SIM is not active.

Contact the service provider or check the lock status of the phone which it is unlocked fully. Rogers is the GSM service provider and Virgin Mobile uses CDMA technology which you cannot use in it.

Incorrect. In Canada, Virgin offers HSPA service, which will work on the 9700. They even sold the 9700.
