| Email, Outlook and Network Server Please Login to Remove! Not sure this is the right place for this, but I could use some help. Bear with me as I'm not an IT professional, but apparently neither is our IT vendor.
I was able to start getting email from our network server at work on my 9930. However, emails arrive on my Blackberry usually about 10-15 minutes after they hit my desktop Outlook; occasionally less, sometimes up to an hour later. Also, I do not have access to my Outlook calendar, Outlook contacts, or any Outlook folders. This can't be normal, can it?
Could someone please tell me what is necessary to properly set up a Blackberry when I'm using Outlook and connected to a network server, so I'm not managing essentially two systems? I need to know specifically what type of server we need to have, which Blackberry software for the server, etc., etc. What do we need to do to accomplish this?
As I mentioned, apparently our IT vendor does not know what he's doing and we have no one on staff who has any more knowledge.
Will appreciate any help. | | Offline

| Re: Email, Outlook and Network Server Outlook is a client on your PC. EMail comes from your email provider, a.k.a Internet Service Provider or ISP.
Using BIS, which I assume is what you have, RIM polls your email provider every 15 minutes and sends any mail it finds to your device. What you see is normal for the BB. Your email client, Outlook, must be set up to poll the server more often.
You must have "Leave Mail on Server" selected in your Outlook email set up for mail to be delivered to the device. It appears this has been done.
You do not have direct access to contacts and Calendar using BIS. You need to sync the BB and Outlook via Desktop Manager using the data cable that came with your device.
I suggest you read the user guide for your device as that is covered in that document.
Why do you say that you IT provider is not a professional? | | Offline

| Re: Email, Outlook and Network Server Thanks for your reply. I guess I'm still a bit confused. I have a smartphone, why would I not have access to my contacts or calendar? Also, there are two other Blackberry users in our office and they are receiving emails on their devices without this 10 to 15 minute (or more) delay., and they have access to at least their contacts. Are you saying that no Blackberry device can access calendars and contacts in this setup? Does this have anything to do with a license for a Blackberry user?
Our IT vendor never seems to be able to answer our questions, and takes far too long to do anything. This past summer, we purchased a new Microsoft Exchange Server. It has taken him until this month to migrate everything from the old server to the new server, because he keeps having problems (that he can't seem to actually define for us). Yes, I know we (and by we, I mean our executive) are to blame by letting this continue, but it is frustrating. That's what I mean when I say he doesn't appear to really know what he's doing. He never seems to be able to actually answer a question.
As a specific example, when I asked him why I'm experiencing this delay, and why I can't access my contacts or calendar, he says he doesn't know. | | Offline

| Re: Email, Outlook and Network Server Ask your vendor if a BES (BlackBerry Enterprise Server) is set up. If it is, tell them to set you up on the BES. They should give you an "Enterprise Activation" password. Using that you can set up your BB to get e-mail instantly, and access to your calendar, contacts, notes and tasks. | | Offline

I think I recall him saying something about this. I'll have to check. Is a license required for each user? | | Offline

| Re: Email, Outlook and Network Server Yes. But they are usually bought in batches and not one at a time.
The license is on the server side. You must have the correct data plan that includes BES. | | Offline

| Re: Email, Outlook and Network Server Thank you, NJBlackberry. This was very helpful. I also found the step-by-step for activation password, etc.; after reading your email, it told me what to look for. I will show this to our vendor, although I have to wonder why he couldn't have figured this out!
Again, thanks! | | Offline

Do you have a BlackBerry data plan?
