Default Compatibility issue

I have a Blackberry 8310 Curve that I have been using with Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.5.0 B016 Multilanguage with Media Manager on Windows 7. I then switched to a new computer running Windows 8. Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.5.0 B016 Multilanguage with Media Manager installed without any problems, but now I cannot connect my Blackberry to my computer. After I enter the password, there is a long delay that goes unresolved.
Is Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.5.0 B016 Multilanguage with Media Manager compatible with Windows 8? If so, what can be causing this problem?

Thank you. According to that link, I should have
BlackBerry Desktop Software 7.1. I currently have Blackberry Desktop Manager 4.5.0 B016 Multilanguage with Media Manager.

Do you know have the link for downloading BlackBerry Desktop Software 7.1?

Many thanks

Something very strange is happening. I uninstalled v4.5 and then downloaded and installed v7.1. Yet on the Blackberry Desktop Software home screen, v4.5.0.174 is displaying under Software version. How can this be explained??

Then I connect my Blackberry and an Unlock Blackberry window appears asking for the Blackberry password. I enter it and an Initializing Device window appears indefinitely. I have been waiting 52 minutes and still nothing has occurred.

I already had .NET Framework 3.5 enabled in my control panel before I installed v7.1.

Any ideas???

I think I may have found a workaround:
- When launching Blackberry Desktop Software, the Unlock the Blackberry window automatically appears. X out of it.
- Click Connect to Device on the bottom right of the Blackberry Desktop Software.
