Default Blackberry battery query

I have several Blackberry's, the oldest of which is a Pearl 8120. The Blackberry Curve 9300 (2nd gen model using 010/113/114 screens) uses the same size of battery as the older Pearl's, although I'm aware that Pearl should be yellow battery and the Curve blue. I am currently using a Bold 9790 which does not share battery size, so can't use that as a test. Here lies my query: The Pearl shows charge when I insert the Curve battery, but comes up with the standard non recognised battery red cross. However, it lights up and displays power. When I use a new official Berry Pearl yellow battery, there is no LED, no charge and no response displayed. It can't be connection or battery terminal otherwise it wouldn't even recognise the charge from the Curve battery. The Pearl was given to me as a fixer upper for another phone for parts, however I haven't touched it...The screen obviously works or I wouldn't even see the battery exclusion and I'm aware that the OS probably needs updating...but my PC won't recognise it because the battery appear unable to function enough to comunicate. Have I missed anything really obvious in this process? Is it that the phone's OS is too old? Do i need an older version not designed for the smartphone generation and if so, does someone have one? This is not for myself, both my Curve and Bold work fine, having replaced the screens, SD cards myself which isn't exactly rocket science, etc but for a friend who has smashed their Blackberry and wishes me to fix it, but I am leaving the country for two weeks tomorrow and was wondering if there was a way to rig the old Pearl as a temp replacement. My 9790 is my spare so I'm not really willing to lend it and am using it because am modding the 9300 currently

The batteries are the same size but ID different so the BB gives the error. Unless the new battery is defective my next step for a BB that is for backup and does not have any important data on it is to replace the OS. Make sure the OS is for that model.
The battery ID is not dependent on the OS but the OS is dependent on the model BB.

I agree with dc/dc, your post is hard to read.
