Question Help: moving from 8520 to 9800

Please Login to Remove!

I'm lost in BB world, so i need you to light me.

My friend is exchanging with his GF their BB.

Problem: the backup (made by BB Desktop) is restoring an account, which they both don't own the login/pwd. The bind datas are contacts and calendars.

The ID they lost is accessible via Settings->emails.

I would like to:
1) blank the BB
2) restore only contacts & agendas regardless of the ID
3) eventually, create a brand new ID to add new mailboxes (gmail)

I'm totally lost:
- what is the name of this ID ? is it pin id ?
- can i clear completly the blackberries ?
- can i restore or import/export at least contacts/agendas/(sms, mms) ?

I found numerous things, but, hey, i fear if i go through, let's say, a security wipe, i'll be asked for the id/password, and/or be unable to restore contacts/agendas if they are bound to this account...

Thank you for your help !!

Why would you restore an account you have no password for?

You shouldn't be restoring someone's information on your device. Either sync the contacts from google/outlook or a mail client like Thunderbird.

As I understand your post. Someone wants to move their information from the BlackBerry 8520 to a BlackBerry 9800. If the old user of the 85xx is going to be using the 9800, then a device switch is all that is needed.

KB23677-How to switch devices using BlackBerry Desktop Software

If a different person wants the information contained in a backup file (Password Protected), then you will have to get the password from the rightful owner. As far as your contacts go, you really should use device switch or import from a service you already have (as listed above)

Once the device is wiped, it is wiped and will not ask for a password or BBID (But you will be prompted to sign in or create one at some point)

1. Blank the BB - Security Wipe
2. Only if you have access to the device or the save file from the older phone.
3. You will have to create a new BBID (BlackBerry ID) and then you can setup the device with accounts (Gmail, outlook, AOL, etc...) You will need a BlackBerry specific Data Plan.

The sticky point is you need the passwords and the questions lead to "is this your BB"

I don't think this is an issue. As far as i understand PIN ID is definitively linked to a customer. IME is also a way to find the real user of a phone. Lock screen is also a security protection. Last, but most important: we don't want to change it (we can live with unknow password), we want to exchange Blackberry's, what ever the BBID is (or was).

We finally understand mail accounts displayed are login of BBID... and we , in the end, grab the password for better things (through 'lost password').

Thank you all, and once again, i'm experienced with Android and iOS, but i had hard times in trying to understand how BB world is working, especially this BBID / BIS account role.
