Hi
I have got 8520 blackberry. I dont have any data plan. I have wifi. How can i receive emails usi.ng wifi

Please use the search function. This has been discussed probably thousands of times here.

A BlackBerry data plan has been a requirement on BBOS devices since the very beginning.

Call your carrier and discuss your options for a data plan that will work on the BB. Some carriers offer limited plans you may find fits your needs

So I discovered after buying a used 9320. My PlayBooks work fine with email on wifi.
I have a Sim with about $550 on it (prepaid) and don't want a data plan at over $50 a month.. Only need email on wifi.
Sad part is an LG Android is on home wifi and email works just fine even without a sim installed. So sad..but sader still if I had purchased a new BB and discovered this big PITA.
I am using the 9320 for a basic phone/texting. Most other Internet stuff works ok over wifi.
Just how disappointed do you think I am!!!

No one cares how disappointed you are. BlackBerry devices have worked like this since they were first introduced in the 90's, so no one has an excuse for not knowing. The only devices that don't require a BlackBerry data plan are devices running BB10.

Thank you for your oh so kind words My post was mostly for those who will purchase a used BB for use on a prepaid card and discover the only real handicap is email on wifi. I use my BB all the time but fail to understand why this problem wasn't addressed a long time ago. Thought I might save someone hours of searching.
Your attitude isn't endearing my first use of a BB PHONE.
BTW my PlayBook is a BlackBerry device - guess it doesn't count.

Older (Legacy) devices will not work strictly on 'WiFi' Common knowledge. That being said, the PlayBook is not a legacy device, nor is it on par with the newer OS, BlackBerry 10. The WiFi version of the PB is designed to work on WiFi. Newer devices work with any generic data plan or simply on WiFi.

It is not a problem that needs to be addressed as that is the way they were designed to run.

BlackBerry legacy handsets are different, and as pointed out always have been, for a long, long time. Sad some people still don't figure that out beforehand.
