my friend gave me their old blackberry & bbm was deleted off of it before i got it. my phone says i cant use my app world to download it back because i need to upgrade my software, which my phone company wont do since they say the warranty on the phone expired. does anyone happen to know how i can get my bbm back without upgrading my software?

You can update the device OS yourself. How do I upgrade the OS on my BlackBerry? - BlackBerryFAQ

You also will need an active BlackBerry Data Plan from your carrier in order to access data functions such as BlackBerry App World and BlackBerry Messenger on device.
