Blackberry Problem

My father has a Blackberry 9860, and recieved a spam email today and opened it...

It loaded and ran a programme 'Green AV' which after a quick google is a known virus. His phone is only a few weeks old and he only really uses it for calling and BBMing. Since this it is not calling people properly and many of its functions are not working properly/or at all.

I wondered what people could suggest to remedy this problem?
Cheers,
Swiper

Re: Blackberry Problem

There is NO virus affecting BBs. If there were, it would be all over the news and here as well.

"Green AV" is a rogue security app installed on a PC.

Google is your friend. Lots of hits when I searched on "Green AV".

Remove Green AV, removal instructions

Frankly I don't see where you are coming from. It has clearly affected his phone, and without any contact with a pc through an email sent to him. I had already found those links and they offer no help with dealing with the problem on any form of smartphone.

There might be no viruses that will affect BBs, but enough folks seem to have some problems after emails or whatever.

It's enough sometimes to wonder if there is one, cos the thought just plain won't go away.

WhiskeySwiper....download this, register it and run it. It's an antivirus for Blackberrys, mentioned in a few threads on here.

SmrtGuard Free Download

I'm afraid that Im not one that believes in co-incidences, everything has a reason. If the Smrtguard doesn't find anything then it's got to be the rougue program that's done something, but how you would get rid of that and it's effects I don't know.

Good luck with it.

Re: Blackberry Problem

Green AV is a WINDOWS virus, actually not really a virus, but malware.

Windows executable files (.exe) do NOT run on the BlackBerry operating system. Period. End of story.

If SmrtGuard doesn't fix whatever is wrong with his BlackBerry, he can always wipe it and reload the OS.

Re: Blackberry Problem

What exactly has it affected on the BB? What is really happening to the BB?

From all I have seen, it is Windows only, no mention of smartphone OS. It does hit MSN from what I read, but not on a BB.

If you really want to be sure, wipe the device with Jl_cmdr (see the FAQ) and then reload the OS (see the sticky at the top of the 9800 section for the latest OS and instructions.

Do not reload any files from a backup.

And please update your profile to show the correct BB you have, there is no 9830 and your cell carrier. We use that to help solve problems (i.e. it helps to know where in the world you are).

Yea, and have there been enough sightings of Elvis alive to convince you?

Afterall, I guarantee you that there have been more FACTUAL Elvis sightings than there have been BlackBerry virus reports.

It ain't happening. This father's problem is a Windows virus, nothing affecting his BlackBerry.
