| Sprint 1XEV dies often? Please Login to Remove! I have Sprint service on my 8830. Relatively often, it'll tell me that I'm not in a area with data service (browser) or fail to pick up new e-mail.
When this happens, the "home" screen doesn't show "1XEV." Instead, it'll either show nothing or it'll show "1X."
If I go into Wireless and turn off all connections (or just "Mobile Network") and then back on, my service will restore.
This is understandable if I were really in an area that didn't have the EVDO service. But, for example, I can be sitting in a chair, have service for 20 minutes, and then have this happen. I haven't moved.
This occurs really all over. Not just in certain areas that might have flaky service.
For example, while visiting a relative in another state, I indicated that I wasn't able to get service in his sub room. He pulled out his MotoQ and said he didn't have any problem. I "kickstarted" my 8830 and it worked again. But for only a few minutes. All the time, he had consistent.
While it's possible I have a broken BB (note: I can sometimes go for hours without a problem), I want to see if other have a similar thing. It's almost as if the BB is pickier about data service than other devices (never had this problem with my EVDO RAZR v3m). Voice is never an issue.
Perhaps I have something set wrong such that it refuses to keep data service unless it's perfect? On a related note, the RAZR would drop down to low speed data when it couldn't get a good EVDO connection. For far as I can tell, the 8830 wants EVDO or nothing (1X and 1xev with the xev in lower case means "no data service").
I called Sprint and they had be remove the battery. This is fixed, because it's the same as my trick above. But it's not a long term fix. |
